Why is my fps so low, on crysis warhead, slower than crysis, and it is on gamer settings 4x aa. Less than 20 fps.

New system, 1st game ive played on it, could be hardware?

I have highlighted the issue for you.

As people have said, with a mediocore card such as the 8800GTS, AA (let alone 4xAA) isn't a viable option as you have proven ;)

Dude I have a 4870 and adding 4x aa would not be a good idea, let alone on your graphics card. lol. Depends on resolution I guess, but at my resolution (1920x1200) 4x aa chews a good 6-8fps and that can be the difference from smooth to laggy in crysis.

To be honest - I have a 24" monitor and so I game at 1920x1200 and AA isn't needed at all. I play Crysis with no AA and don't see many jaggies at all because of the large resolution ;)

Bah I hate that, in most games AA or no AA is barely noticable on performance, especially low levels of AA like 2x and 4x, but I'm forced to play it mostly on dx9 gamer settings ( textures & physics & water on enthusiast, shadows on mainstream) now because of the AA hit :(. I hate jaggies above everything...

It's because post-processing in games is non-existent unless they're Crysis.

Use r_useedgeaa 2. It's the same effect as 2xAA with alpha texture multisampling on top to boot - makes foliage looks nice instead of noisy.

I also notice you're using a 8800GTS. That's a pretty duff graphics card for Crysis to be honest if you're trying to use AA and it's letting your 6600 down too. Get a 4870 and really let your processor shine!

Foliage is fine, I'm mainly annoyed by jaggies on stuff like crates, buildings, vehicles, etc...

So if I put post processing on lowest, would I be able to get more AA ?

Thanks for the tip though will do ( I'm using 4x btw, but I assume r_useedgeaa 4 works just as well ?) :).

r_useedgeaa comes in 0 (no edge AA), 1 (minor edge AA) and 2 (major edge AA). 1 is on by default, and 0 when any form of normal AA is selected.

If you put any of the major shader-based settings down, like shaders, game effects, post processing, etc you can crank the AA up. PErsonally just use r_useedgeaa 2. You think your foliage is fine now, but it's not. :p Wait till you try that command.
