Hi,

My Dad was flashed on the motorway in France - speeding, does anybody know what might happen? Will it be sent across to the UK and fine him here?

Thanks

I was in France for only an hour and a half or so and I got flashed by a camera after overtaking a car. It made the night turn into day it was that bright! Needless to say, it's been 7months and I'm still a free man! I think you'll be fine...

One of my mates thought he got flashed in Belgium a month ago. Since then I've been toying with the idea of faking a letter to wind him up. ;)

PK!

So just out of interest, how come if you break the speed limit abroad they don't tend to issue a fine to your address in the UK? Is it more to do with the fact they can't be bothered to follow it up?

No access to UK database of drivers / cars at the moment, and no system in place to issue or manage Europewide issue of fines / points. However the EU is working towards it, another great EU idea!

If you are stopped then yes - you will get a fine.
Mainly because they cannot put points on a UK driving license and you don't have a French license.

As has been said speed camera offences won't be followed up.

As to the post above who seemed to think the idea of cross-country fines not being a good idea - why?
Why should you be ablle to go to another country and effectively break the law without any penalty?
I'm sure you wouldn't be happy seeing French or other foreign motorists zipping along our motorways at 100mph and getting away with it.
It works both ways and it is about time that fines for speeding in outher countries were enforceable.

Post if from here, explaining its from the local partnership in conjuction with Belgium authoritites under a new joint initiative for safety and that all UK fines and points apply :D

nothing, been flashed many a time. Even stopped and let off after being advised of all the KMH limits of each road doing 90 in a 50 which was I was totally unaware of as I was out of town.
