Hi folks

Me and the G/F are due a house inspection early next week from Battersea Dogs & Cats home as we are looking for a second dog to keep our daschund x jack russell company.

Anyone here been through this process or know about it, I'd like to know what to expect i.e. what they are inspecting for :)

TIA!

In all honesty, I'm guessing they'd just be looking to see that its:

1) Safe (ie. it has it's own area to go or sleep if it wants to get away from any noise etc)
2) Clean
3) Not too noisy (depending on the dog it might be quite shy, they might look to see that it's not going to be sleeping in the living room with the TV near by).
4) Whether or not you have a garden etc?

If it was me buying a dog or adopting one I'd just do the following;

Make sure it had it's own space, it's own bed or place it can call it's own.
Water/food bowls.

If all of those things seem fine and it's a nice place for the dog to live, the only other thing I can see them looking at is yourself. Whether you're some council estate *****, or whether you're genuinely going to look out for the dog and it's interests. I.e. walking it, being home for some of the day to take it out etc.

Yeah we had a house inspection for our dog, if you have a garden make sure there is a fence so they cant escape. We had to put chickenwire up last minute as there was a gap through some bushes a dog could get through.

Apart from that its pretty standard stuff like mp3kla said above

2) Clean Give him a brush

4) Whether or not you have a garden etc? subbuteo pitch

I'm sorry bored at work :D

The garden is fenced all the way around, although we have some rubble on the patio from our extension thats just been finished, although we did mention this on the phone. The only thing I can think might be problematic (apart from the fact I have to SERIOUSLY tidy the place up :p) is that our two staircases are quite steep?

Aye pretty standard stuff.

Anyone actually been through the process?
I have. As others have said they just want to check where it will live and make sure its suitable for more than one dog, and the garden (if there is one) isnt a building site or tip.

Atleast it means you past the first interview.

That might be a problem. Depending who you get for the visit, some are quite flexible while others can be picky. The thing to remember is they want to give the dogs good homes. If they hint at a problem, ask them if a gate would help.

Done the process, pretty simple, they'll just make sure its safe, that you have a decent sized garden, and that its secure.

Also ask you how long the animal will be left alone. during the day.
