would it be possible to run this setup on my Corsair 650w PSU? im thinking of getting this in the near future, just wanna make sure my psu is up to scratch. Also running q6600 @ 3ghz (proberly up it to 3.6ghz down the line) 1 500gb sata HD (proberly add two more in the future) 1 x DVD-RW and 4GB RAM. Thnx :)

ps. would running this on my P7N 750i hinder sli performance? i think it runs it at x16/x8  id also add two molex to 6pin one on each card as the corsair 650w only has two 6pins. thnx again in advance.

Get a 4870x2 as performance between the 2 will be similar and its cheaper. x2 has more mem bandwidth also. Saying that if prices drop on the gtx260 then will be a viable option. Think your psu is probably good enough but borderline minimum spec. Good reliable psu though.

x8 is going to be a bit of a hinderance on 260 SLI... not majorly but it will be holding you back at the top end...

The power draw is going to be a bit borderline for that PSU tho I'd think as just one of those cards can peak at 180watt.

As for performance - in quite a few games the normal 260 in SLI has double the minimum fps of the 4870X2 (which is where it really counts) even tho the average and max fps are only moderatly higher than the X2.

Yep, you would be better of going for the 4870x2, quicker and will be cheaper.

thnx for the advice guys, well i do have an sli board (forgot to mention both slots are pci 2.0) and i have heard good things about the gtx 260 in sli. Considering the PSU is going to be border line with the current power draw would it be worth it to hold back for the 55nm that should be out before the end of the year? I've got a 4850 in now so it should be fine till then i presume (if it doesn't choke in Farcry 2 that is!).

Cheapest 4870X2 on Ocuk: £364.24
Cheapest pair of 260s (non 216 version): £364.22

AHA! :D Can't really argue the performance crown as none of us know what res he'll be playing at. At 1920 x 1200 either set-up can be faster depending on what company the game devs liked that day.

HAHAHAhaha your right there like almost the same price! yea im gonna be going for max res/fps ratio dependent on the game, im yet to buy a monitor which im gonna get soon. Thnx for tha advice im gonna settle for the 260's within a month or two i can see the 260's getting cheaper, meaning lower total price (i could have sworn the prices gone up since like 2 weeks ago?!?). Not sure if the same will happen for 4870x2...

The 260 216's are a complete waste of money, if you must get 260's then get the 192 stream ones, unless you would notice that they are only 2fps slower, and if you don't have to get 260's, get a 4870 X2. :)

apparently there around 15% faster

Not even close. Does show a good comparison in that review of standard 260SLI vs a 4870X2 though. Just check the little table under the graph as the main graph they show isn't always at the same resolution throughout (Example they might show 1920 x 1200 in Crysis as the main graph, but 2560 x 1600 for GRID)

thnx for the link Adrianr, what i gathered was the 216 on its own is only 1-3 faster than the standard, not sure about sli but for the price difference to the standerd i don't think its worth it, but standard sli'd beat the 4870x2 in most games by looking at the small chart (referring to 1920 x 1200 in particular as its what ill probably be playing at), correct no?

Like i say, depends who the game devs liked that day. If you have an SLI board then going 260SLI would be a great idea. And if you dont like it you always have the option of sending them back for a 4870X2 :)

Best thing is to list what games you play most, see what is faster in what, and whether the speed increase is crucial. IE a speed increase to 200fps from 160 is nice, but you'll never notice it, whereas an increase from 30 to 50 will be much more noticable.

You'll be hard pressed to be disapointed either way :)
