Fiat 500 Abarth esseesse

197bhp and a 7.4s 0-62? it would have to be made completely of 2inch thick cast iron to be that slow

That would be 197 abhps (autoexpress brake horse power), which is an imaginary figure used only by jaded hacks working for the automotive equivalent of the Sunday Sport.

WOW Fiat Chav it should be called.

It's hardly "chav". The vents and flared arches are for function rather than simply form, and it's not exactly writing cheques that the mechanical bits can't cash. ~160bhp, decent chassis as small cars go (better than the BINI I expect) and a limited slip diff'. I suspect that'll be an utter riot. Hell, even the bog-basic 1.2 can be a bit of a giggle when you press on.

Exactly. It constantly amazes me that people (on this forum especially) are so quick to put the 'OMG CHAV!!!111' label on anything that even slightly deviates from the look of the standard base-spec model

A 'chav' car is a 1.0 litre corsa with 20" wheels, and 400 tons of fibreglass and filler attached to it. A cheeky little ~900kg hatchback with 160bhp and an LSD certainly isn't 'chav'.

I bet it'll be an absolute hoot

My old turbo Legacy had 197bhp and was supposed to do 0-60 in 7.2 seconds and 140 mph.
It also weighed as much as a small house, why with all its horsepower and lack of weight, is this 500 not quick?

Ahh auto express lies.

Looks great, 160bhp, not too heavy, LSD , yes please :)

The Ferrari garage I pass everyday has 2 'normal' abarth 500s by the looks of things, they look good too :)

0-60 times don't always tell the whole performance story. Weighing less than 1000kg the problem probably is traction with that much horsepower.

Good fun I bet.

Traction shouldn't be that much of a problem with the LSD and well setup suspension.

Indeed, my previous car was a ~820kg turbo hatch with 160hp odd and a torsen diff. It would spin through first if you were agressive with it but having a diff it would still pull you forward at a rate of knots and would do 0-60 in 6.6 seconds, timed at Trax a couple of years back, running a shade over 150hp.

Would love to have a go in one of these 500's
