Carling Cup Spoilers 23 / 24

Then you are. There's no place in the game for tackles like that.

i disagree, im all for massive strong tackles as long as the ball is played. I'd hate to see the game turn into a bunch a fairys running around

so am i , but as long as the ball is won , so often a player makes sure he gets a bit of the player as well

i'd like to clear up that i dont agree with players getting hurt and its never nice to see someone get hurt but if someone gets hurt in a strong tackle to win the ball there not much you can do about it.

Last night i really do believe that pogatetz was only trying to play the ball and inspire the team which he has done on so many occasions in the past doing the same thing, nothing gets the adrenaline going like a crunching tackle, and i think he was truly shocked to be dismissed because he had won the ball and 2 he clearly didnt realise the kid was hurt as he didnt intend to hurt him.

He knew EXACTLY what he was doing. He's a filthy player and it's not the first time he's done something like this. You've got to be a M'boro supporter

I don't get why people get annoyed when Arsenals youngsters play in the cup do well and then get praised about it. "well some of them have been played as subs", why is that relevant - no one states that they have not played first team football. A combined age of 18.5, **** how young do you want them to be to be considered 'youngsters'?

To go into a challenge the way he did it has to be pre-meditated. That's just not a natural approach to a tackle. It's two-footed, its a lung, it's studs up and it is high. Yes, he won the ball and then took the man but that doesn't make it OK. It isn't a non-contact sport but there's no place in the game for that.

And I'm an amateur league centre half.

Gilly, openly critisizing a challenge on a Man Utd player? *faints*

Although i'm assuming if the tackle was on say...Alan Smith, your opinion may be slightly different :p

If Possebon had his foot fully on the floor when Pogatetz made impact I'm pretty sure his leg would have snapped.

Some great goals from the Arsenal youngsters last night, really impressed with them.

a combined age of 18.5? that makes the victory seem even more impressive as a group of 1 and a bit year olds :p

personally I don't give a crap how old people are, arguing over the age of the team is completely irrelevant. Fabregas from probably his 3rd appearance looked like one of the 3 best central mid players in the league at 16/17, he's the same player now, better, more experience but not that much better than he was. A lot of players, a huge number are really as good as they get by 21 tbh. People go on about experience, half these "kids" by age 20 have played 100's of competitive matches and trained for hours a day for over a decade. It might not be premiership experience but football is football. A 17yr old getting his first appearance in the premierleague is no where near inexperienced.

At the end of the day, Arsenal played well yesterday no matter their ages, but their opposition was woeful aswell. Vela's finishing, the variation, the control and his creativity off the ball is semi Ian Wright style, though he's faster. He's a true striker, one that I'm not sure has been seen in the last couple years in the premiership, it all seems to be tap in kings (Adebayour) or players who run around trying to pick up the ball in midfield rather than play as a striker(rooney). The link up play between 2 proper strikers who are both capable of creating goals looked immense.

Eer.. you could be playing for Arsenal's first team week in week out and have 39 caps for your country under your belt but if you're 17 you're 17 - a youngster.

Eer.. I didn't say they weren't youngsters, I said we've heard it all before from the media and they make it sound like this lot haven't played football before, just like they did last time round.

Just watched the match, we played excellently, players like Rodders and Rafael looked very confident. Also very pleased with Anderson and Nani putting in very mature performances. The tackle in question was a shocker, no-one can possibly have any complaints with the red card or reaction from people. Glad to hear he hasn't broken it, would be a shame to see one of our most promising talents set back like that.

I know it's been talked about to death now but I'd like to add something from a personal experience about the Pogatez challenge.

A few years ago I went into a challenge during a match and caught the guy right on his ankle, I'm not a dirty player, nor would I ever go into a challenge to purposely hurt someone but on that occasion he broke his ankle. Straight away I got hurled abuse at, kind of what had been said in here last night, thuggery and the lark.

I don't think any players (apart from Ben Thatcher maybe) goes into hurt another player but you can just mis-time challenges which Pog did.

It's all in the game, everyone loves a strong challenge and never think of the coincidences if said player gets it slightly wrong and hurts the guy!

So all is well now.

He might not have been trying to hurt him, but he's gone into a harsh challenge on purpose and mis-timed it.

Yeah, he went into a 50-50 challenge like any full blooded player would for the sport. He got it wrong though but he wouldn't of meant to do it, hence he doesn't deserve the abuse really.

It's not a case of him intending to injure the guy or not. That type of challenge is dangerous and wreckless and shouldn't be 'in the game'. Im not sure how last nights incident was simply a case of miss timing the challenge either because he got the ball.

There's a huge difference between a strong tackle and what Pogatez done last night
