I dont know the rules of refills, but i heard once that if the toner runs too low, its too late to refill

is that true for all laser printers?

I love how the worrymongers come out as soon as the word toner crops up. You handle printed material every single day that will normally be printed using solvent based inks yet you worry about handling toner. 5 minutes in your average city centre at rush hour will more than lilley do you more harm.

It's only £12-14 for a refill kit with the chip reset tool, you don't have to cut/melt the cartridge on the 4200. A pre refilled cart is £20-25 delivered, it's hardly expensive to run... and those prices are incluiding delivery, for the sake of £8-11 it's not the hardest of jobs to do but if you are worried just get a pre refilled cart.

For home use lasers are surprisingly cheap to run if your willing to refill toner cartridges.
Most laser printers now count pages rather than simply stop printing in a colour as they get low as they used to.
It is not illegal to refill toner cartridges and depending on make and model can be very easy, some even have a simple cap on the end of the toner cartridge that you remove and pour in new toner (toner is actually a fine black powder).
Many of the newer printers also require a chip to reset the page count I mentioned and simply refilling will not work without a new chip. The people who sell refill toner invariably also sell the chips.

It is easy to do and if you have a laser printer you should try it at least once as the savings can be massive.

.....and how on earth did you have problems refilling a 1200 :) do not try the above if your a complete numpty.

Do it.

Samsung's are usually dead easy. My Mum's ML-1210 is on it's 4th refill of the original starter cartridge. New cartridge = £40, refill kit for 3 refills = £15. Not bad for a £50 printer.
