The Wipeout HD Information Thread

Just in case people missed it a few pages back, i'm trying my best to keep the PSN ID list of people with wipeout updated. If anyone wants adding just post here or message me on the PSN.

Am i the only one who is immensely impressed with this game? Especially considering it's teeny tiny price tag?

Looks as good as some of the best looking next gen games, runs smooth as silk even when the screen is busy, the netcode is solid, the menu is fast and responsive, the soundtrack is brilliant, the tracks are fantastic and the AI is spot on.

Only thing lacking is game modes, but what we're given is sufficient imo.
 
Maybe we should post what kind of PS3 we have and the order of installing (as I read that could make a difference)

I have a 60GB launch console, I installed the unlock patch first and have no issues (yet)

Same here, though I've got a US machine.
 
It's been confirmed (i think) that the issue relates to how many friends you have on the PSN and how many are online/offline at the time. No specific figures have been given yet but i'd be willing to bet that it has something to do with the recent firmware update that increased our friends list limit from 50 to 100.
 
Hmm, I've just had my first lockup on my 60gb launch day. I also installed the unlock code first. All I did was press select, accepted the conditions and then....kablammo!

Doesn't matter, you can do it before or after as far as i can tell. I'm assuming the client we download was originally meant to be a demo and you paid for the unlock but they've chucked them in together... don't know why, it's a fantastic game and a demo would have confirmed that for me.

When we were testing the final version of WipEout HD yesterday we simply assumed the online portion of the game was disabled, and had to play it signed out of PSN. Turns out it’s still broken, but it’s actually because of some bug with the friends list - if you’ve got more than 50 friends, the game will hang on the menus, and you won’t be able to race.

We’ve not verified this 100% yet, but it’s simple: if the game is crashing, delete some friends or play the game signed out. We’re assuming a patch is forthcoming, but, seriously, this is pretty ******.

Update: yep, we’ve just deleted 30 or so friends, and now the online portion is working…

Obviously most people won't want to delete friends. If this is in fact the issue it won't be difficult to fix as it is clearly software based, bare with it i'm willing to bet we'll see a patch before the weekend.

Don't worry though, as first impressions go, this one could turn out to be a keeper (i try to not get overexcited by first impressions). What's your PSN mate? i'll get you added to the list, i think we need some full-on OCUK races.
 
As this is the Wipeout Information thread any chance I could get some info?

Like why the hell am I like driving miss daisy whilst everyone else is flying past me... I feel like Will Ferrell in Talegeda Knights after his accident :(

BTW I've never played a Wipeout game before, and am very impressed with the game, just getting too comfortable in last place.

Any tips greatly appreciated ;)

I suck hard too due to not playing wipeout since the original one on the PS1, whappers destroyed me online :(

What i have learned so far is:

1. The accelerate button is touch sensitive so make sure you keep pressure on it, you can adjust the amount of pressure required in the options menu.

2. Learn the tracks - if you know where the blue boost pads are better than the other guy you will win

3 Lean the weapons - obvious really :D

I would say good luck, but i think we both need it, this game is damn hard.
