Hey all, just a few queries regarding my system really, I bought Vista 64 Home Prem back on release day last year, but had some compatability issues with some programs, so still with XP right now, i'm really trying to run down a check list with my current system and programs;

Intel E6300 @ Stock on Asus P5NE-sli
2gb Geil PC6400 (Worth upgrading to 4bg first?)
300gb main hdd partitioned into 180/50/50
ATI x1950xt 256mb

I mainly don't play PC games anymore, the upgrading cost was killing me so I'm happy with the 360/PS3, only game really played is WoW, or sometimes EvE.

The main problems I had before were running stardock objectdock, its the main program I "can't live without" As silly as that sounds :)

How easy is it to port all firefox3.0/outlook express settings over to Vista? I'm assuming getting the Vista upgradetool for backing up outlook to windows mail onto an external drive SHOULD do the trick? Unsure how to back up firefox bookmarks and settings, but I really don't want to risk losing them!

Main other programs are just the usual, MSN, Outlook Express, Firefox, itunes (all 4 ALWAYS on) Adobe Creative Suite 3, newsleecher, nero suite, filezilla etc...

Just want to make sure really if there are any "me specific" issues I would run into? How is Vista looking nowadays compared to the faffing about at launch?

Only other query is that with XP, whenever I try to hibernate on my pc, as I do on the laptop, it fails, every time, and will never seem to work, how is hibernate on Vista with PC's now?

Sorry about the long winded post, and thanks in advance!

Well, from personal experience I use Stardock products on my Vista Ultimate x64 system without any probs whatsoever.

You can easily backup your FF/Outlook via Docs & Settings and check both "Application Data" and "Local Settings" for references and copy the folders across.

Btw, with FF Foxmarks is useful.

I have next to no issues with Vista on my machine to be honest. Most developers have caught up now and SP1 has helped.

Windows is Windows. Meh.

My M1530 even came with a Dell-branded version of ObjectDock installed - it's a little limited so I'll be switching to the fully fledged version but considering a version of it ships with Vista I'm pretty sure it'll be fine.

I'm on Vista 64 and have used all the apps you talk about except Newsleecher and ObjectDock. I'd imagine they should work fine, though.

Much better, it's almost like a different OS :)

if your going to get vista then id definitely recommend getting 4gigs of ram. i have 4gigs and had vista but went back to xp pro (stripped down version) as i prefer the layout and it performs in games a bit faster.
