Is my PSU about to blow?

I have a hiper type-r 580w and its been ok for me for the last 2-3 years but last
night it started to make a weird noise, kind of a rubbing noise. Now I know
this is not a reliable psu and I've heard horror stories regarding it so I want to order a new psu before it blows and takes away some other parts with it.

I'm not too sure what I should get, I have a chance to go out to the local shop to pickup a Coolermaster Real Power 1000w Modular Power Supply,
otherwise I will have to order from Ocuk. Do you think the coolermaster is as good as the corsairs? Or should I just hold on a few days and wait for the delivery(I'm in Ireland) in case I order off Ocuk?

Thanks

Thanks guys, I'm thinking of switching back over to ATI in a few weeks.
Will the Corsair 620HX be enough if I ever decided to crossfire 2 4870's?

Maybe the Corsair TX750 then. Crossfire is'nt recommended with a P35 board though due to the second slot running at only 4x. In any case stop pushing your luck with that Hiper. If it blows it could take out some of your components.

Thanks, Corsair it is then.

Used many hyper psu's in builds never had a problem. You can find "horror stories" with all psu makers if you look hard enough.

Rubbing sound like a fan?

Yes thats true but you always seem to be looking for horror stories regarding
the brand you have, and when I read all those horrors i was shocked.

The noise is kind of like a rubbing sound, I'm not sure if its the fan.

Anyways, I ordered a Corsair TX 750W https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-011-CS ,
its on This Week Only Offer so it looks like a great deal.

I would agree with you for the most part, but with the hypers you really dont have to look "hard" to find horror stories.. read these forums enough and they will find you..
