FARCRY 2 --- Officially , official of official threads! ---

I mean, coming from Warhead, this looks so incredibly boring.

Take the trailer "blowout_night". 4 minutes and 15 seconds of absolute tedium. Sneaking around but not really doing anything. Killing 3 people, swimming about. Yawn.

Can't believe how dated the graphics look either, really shocked.

How can this game ever hope to compete with games such as Warhead which was so incredibly groundbreaking & unlike anything ever seen before on the PC

Also, it's called Far Cry 2 but there's absolutely no reason for it to be. It couldn't be any more different from the original.

Leave games like this to Crytek. Ubisoft really have no idea.

I think it looks fantastic, especially the evening video. I'm not too keen on the night time one graphically but thats not necessarily the point with this game. I'm sure it will be something special

Hey everyone! Just thought I'd post some more interesting info from the PC Gamer review.

Enjoy!

"There's nothing to break your absorption. No barrier to concentration. No flipping to a map screen to see where you are - here the map is a physical item held like a gun. If you want to work out where you're going, you'll have to pull it out while driving - glancing down at your lap like a lost tourist."

"...some will feel frustrated that the AI baddies respawn after you've taken them down. Checkpoints are refilled with men perhaps a little too quickly. It frustrated me, too, but I stopped caring after the first couple of hours. Some will feel frustrated at the repetition: every mission boils down to killing a lot of men in a single area. Again, that frustrated me to begin with. But again, I stopped caring after the first couple of hours. Because make no mistake, this is a superb game. At its core is combat that works. It is consistently surprising. Consistently hilarious."

"Before the game is out, developers will release a benchmarking tool that will let you see how the game will look, and what framerate you'll get."

"Some will simply reject this game because it's hooked up to Massive's in-game ads system, where roadside billboards advertise real-world products. As I was playing before release, the tech wasn't hooked up. I worry that ads insensitive to the setting will break the spell."

"... it is extraordinarily beautiful. Let's not kid about here; given the right hardware, this is an astonishingly good-looking game. Remember that bit at the start of Oblivion, when you escape the sewers, and the view just blows you away? Far Cry 2 does that every 15 minutes or so."

I think that will do for now :) I wasn't excited about this game at all, until now!

The usual big game review from PC Gamer then. That magazine clearly hasn't changed since i stopped reading it.

This is what I'm talking about. We've done the scripted stuff to bits. Bring on the march of unscripted games!
I'm really looking forward to this.

Hope this game actually works when it's released. Two of the biggest titles this year (Clear Sky & Warhead), have been very disappointing for me, both unfinished due to bugs

Probably to do with your set up.

Warhead played perfectly on my system, didn't crash once the entire way through. Played it all in one go as well.

I format my computer every month or so. I would recommend doing this, it does help.

Clear Sky is obviously a problem for everyone so not even worth mentioning.

Looks awesome, and will look better in the flesh and not on a video. I dont want to see anymore vids though, gonna wait until release.

I'm remaining sceptical about this game.

Huge static environment... repetitive quests... it's basically the single player equivalent of WoW minus all the attractions of an MMORPG.

When I play SP I want it to be fast paced, streamlined and heavily story driven, like Max Payne or Warhead. I think this game may try too hard to give the player freedom and as a result will become a directionless grind.

After I've done a few missions, layed waste to a few camps and burnt several houses to the ground I just don't see there being any fresh incentive to play.

But I really hope I am proved wrong!

Agree with this. It seems FarCry2 wasn't sure what type of game to be.

I obviously don't know but from the looks of it, theres no intensity at all to the combat. Warhead absolutely nailed it as far as I'm concerned. Everything a shooter should be.
