Any reason why I shouldnt pick this up? (cheap alfa within!)

It has no floor mats, rear floor looks dirty, leather looks quite worn and why oh why does it have those awful beige parts to the interior? Oh, and you don't like black, you'd prefer a pink one.

I fail to see how it's a bargain. You can get newer, better specced cars for the same or less (think French- not that I'd ever buy French though).

It looks nice though.

I've driven a 2.0 GTV, and it was gutless. The GT is a heavier car too.

Well, you drove a different engine for start because the 2.0JTS was never found in the GTV :p

Wouldn't say its a 'gutless' engine. The 2.0 JTS is reasonably powerful (given the age of the design which its based on), has a reasonable amount of torque, revs freely, feels eager and is smooth (with a balancer shaft I think). It's fine for a GT and you avoid the nose heaviness of the 3.2.

Downsides are that the 2.0JTS isn't particularly economical, high maintenance, uses oil (though not as much as the TS), and becomes increasingly fragile at high mileages (though again, not as bad as the TS).

A 2.0JTS on a GT really isn't a problem. It suits the car just fine.

OP - there will be something wrong with that car. Crashed, damaged, rebuilt, been on a jig or something like that. It's probably been shunted up the rear and been rebuilt. I'd have a look boot floor or get it up on a ramp.

The car is underpowered for to it's weight I'd agree, but it's a bit harsh to suggest 165bhp from a normally aspirated 2.0L engine is gutless.

But the fact its underpowered for its weight is the key, really. A 200bhp V6 isn't gutless, but stick it in a Mercedes S280 and it is...

120bhp/ton isn't going to set the world on fire, no. But if ultimate uber speed/acceleration are not of primary concern, then it doesn't necessarily matter.

Although that is quite low.

The last of the Alfa engines before they changed to the GM based unit.

JTS engines tend to use more oil than Twinny's not sure why. Early JTS engines were very bad and a **** up with cam shafts and ECU's had the power as bad as 140bhp. They are suppose to be 165bhp although many people found even from standard that they were producing more than this since Alfa tackled the problems stated before.

10w60 oil all the way with these. If it's a genuine car it's a bargain IMO.

Really nice looking motor!

I love the looks of Alfas, I was considering one until my idea got shot down in flames on here (probably a good thing :p). Might have to get one at some stage in life though just for the experience ;) Hopefully by then they will be a bit more robust!

I'll steer clear of my Alfa hatred (nasty, horrible cars) and say only that cheap Alfas are never a good buy. They're cheap for a reason.

Performance aside (assuming this is not a concern) that is an absolutely stunning car for £6000. Wow, it looks really really smart. I am struggling to think of anything that can even get near this car for the money.

Peformance is not an issue. I may check it out at the start of next week, but been doing some research and not overly happy with this engine sitting on 80 odd thousand miles.. seems like it may need some work doing to it even if its a straight, honest car!
