How much did your premium increase if you declared you had alloys?

I'm picking my first car up tonight but within a few months i'm thinking about after market wheels, I don't even want to know what Churchill are going to say.

About £70, but I declared wheels and suspension mods at the same time. That's with Adrian Flux .

When I put some new alloys on my Puma before, it didn't cost anything extra when I was with Tesco Insurance. They only charge you once for any mods as long as they give under 10% more power. I think the initial amount was about £50-75.

What if you don't know if the alloys were stock or not? Years ago, before I was a bit more savvy about cars, my mum bought a Corsa with alloys on - no idea wether it was stock or not. We never mentioned anything to the insurance company. It was actually aftermarket ones in the end. I am sure there must be people who wouldn't know.

£250 with directline. Gits.

If you don't declare them then when you make a claim the garage will report the alloys to the insurance company. At this point you will have to pay an increased excess and the increase premium.

I was with Churchill originally...Brought some alloys, as I was fed up of replacing my hub caps every month...And they asked how old I was...

Apparently I had to be over 25 to have alloys on my car and be insured by them????

So I told them to gfto and went with a different company.

But I believe all in all it went up about £50.

It's weird how your insurance goes up...I mean you could NOT tell them, but when you have a crash and they find out you haven't told them you get shafted.

Didn't cost me anything when I was with Privelage but the car came with factory fitted alloys that I swapped out for slightly bigger ones. Don't know if that made a difference.

I'm with Churchill, they don't charge any extra but won't replace the alloys if nicked / damaged ( even if factory optional wheels )

thats only if it is shown to be a cause for the accident. if it wasnt then they wont be considered, but also wont be paid out for.

Wardie, you are under 21 correct?

Churchill will refuse any quotes on 'modifications' if you are under 21

I'm with Prudential which is part of Churchill and they operate the same policy. This is why I didn't declare any of the mods on my Focus. Was a bit of a daft thing to do considering the list of mods was almost as long as my arm :p

So in that case, is all the "your insurance is void if you have after market alloys" a load of rubbish?

I know of a few people who have had accidents (one wrote his own car off, no others involved) with alloys on that were not declared. The alloys and tyres were not felt to have been attributed to the accident so the insurance was fine about it, they just didnt pay out for new ones.
