2008 Singapore GP - Race 15/18

Not sure if this has been posted (These F1 threads get too long to keep track of :p) but:

Heidfeld gets a penalty, and Barrichello a fine

27/09/2008

Nick Heidfeld has been handed a three-place grid penalty following an incident that occurred during today's qualifying session. Race Stewards in Singapore have handed the German a three-place penalty after the BMW driver was adjudged to have impeded Rubens Barrichello. The incident happened when the Brazilian, who was on a flying lap, was forced to abort his lap, and head into the pits, after closing in on Heidfeld, who had slowed in order to enter the pits. The pitlane entrance and exit has received much criticism since the opening practice sessions, and despite modification overnight it is clear that
there is still a problem. Meanwhile, as if to further demonstrate the absurdity of the decision, and indeed the pitlane entrance, Barrichello has been fined 10,000 euros for not accessing the pits through the deceleration zone.

Pathetic.

EDIT: Surely by issuing Barrichello the fine they are contradicting the Heidfeld fine; Heidfeld *did* use the deceleration zone, as far as I could see? What *should* the drivers be doing in this situation? Any official word?

LOL, driver gets fined for doing the correct thing. Feel sorry for Heidfeld. Give him the blame when its blatently the designers fault.

What a joke, Its the FIA's fault for approving the dam track. They should have noticed that the pitlane was on the racing line.

That's ******* pathetic! I swear the FIA are morons, there was nothing either of them could have done about that :( it's just incredibly bad track layout for the pit entrance. The entrance should have been maybe 100 metres back up the road, leaving the last corners free and have the exit further down the straight, or at least leaving enough room so that the exit doesn't immediately take the cars back out into the middle of the racing line on the first left.
