First PES 2009 Review

It also seems this years PES shooting system isn't too good also :(

it should be hard to score from outside the box and from angles
whats not good about that? one minute the fifa fans are moaning its too easy to score in pro evo outside the box then when they tighten it up then its not so good?

It's the reviewer who moaned about it. Who also seems to be quite a fan of PES after having so many bad things to say about it yet it still got 88%.

I have seen the same on the old PES and when we get a demo/full game i bet it will happen again.

Also why use an old build/p.c demo which is a different engine to the 360/PS3. Wait till the final build is out.

so the reviewer is wrong then?
make your mind up already

How can i know if he's right or wrong? I'm going off my experiance from past games.

Also how many shots do you think the reviewer had from 50 yards? Hell i didn't score from half way line on pro like that till i'd had the game 5 months.

Stop with your fangirlism and typical bs/flawed respones.

Wait a minute, read my post i said it 'SEEMS' this year pro evo had poor shooting going by his review.

Stop making things up.

Why is it with football games if I hold down the shoot button it means that I'm not going to score? Why do we have to tap the button so slightly, it's annoying. If I'm holding it down I should be charging it up. I shouldn't be able to score from outside the box by just tapping it.

I thought this years FIFA shooting would be better but I don't like it. I understand that it should be difficult to score outside the box and the chances of doing it should be slim but it's very near impossible to be honest. The keeper either usually saves it or if you try to hit it with power it goes over the bar.

That's the only thing I liked about PES2008, if you held down the shot button you knew it wasn't going to be a completely inaccurate shot. If you tapped it, the shot would come off as a weak one. However it seems with 2009 they are going back the way according to the review. I want to try the demo out :(

New interview with Seabass

UK, September 26, 2008 - Shingo 'Seabass' Takatsuka has had a tough year. As the creative kingpin behind Pro Evolution Soccer he has been showered with praise and, over the last decade, has seen the football series enjoy a meteoric rise. However, last year's iteration was widely criticised for not moving the game on, which made him and his team return to the drawing board to work on the latest version. With PES 2009 just a couple of weeks from release, we caught up with Seabass in Rome to find out how things have progressed.

Don't like the sound of this...

IGN: PES 2008 was criticised for not moving the series forward. How did that inspire you to create the new version?

Seabass: I'm reluctant to say but you're right about the criticism we received. It wasn't our ideal next-gen title -- there were online issues and slow-down in the game. But we used those criticisms to motivate us for PES 2009 and spent a lot of time solving these issues. I think we've managed to erase most of the problems in the final version of the game.

And this just makes me laugh, sounds like he's bitter...

IGN: In the past, Pro Evo was regarded as a sim and FIFA a more casual game, but that's changing and both are becoming similar. Is that a conscious decision on your part?

Seabass: One side of that is true because I get the feeling that FIFA is trying to implement a lot of the stuff that we do

Didn't the Winning Eleven have the 'Become a Legend/Be a Pro mode' before Fifa adopted it? I think that's what he might be hinting at. But there's no need for it. He should be focused on improving his games, something that he could learn from FIFA

i'll say this though ....in previous years (not last year) Winning Eleven/PES was miles ahead and i've hated FIFA with a passion for eons because it relied on tricks and was suited for the "pub crowd" and morons who wanted to score 12 goals every match but i gotta say the FIFA09 demo really plays well and i fear for PES this time out.

i don't know why they changed the engine for PES6 (360)/PES2008, all they needed to do was keep tweaking it and update the visual side of it.....i go back to PES6 on the PC all the time because it's just miles ahead of the new engine but FIFA09 could be my main game if the demo is anything to go by.

it's also kinda nice not having to worry about patching the game to get proper kits/names etc etc blah blah ....and EA are still all over Konami in terms of presentation and general polish.....miles ahead.

i won't write off Konami just yet and i hope that they can reverse the damage PES2008 introduced to the gameplay.

So I have just given the Fifa 09 demo a chance, playing a good few matches. The game seems to give you much more freedom in movement and control over the ball than previous carnations I have played, but thats about it. Fifa pitches have always seemed very small to me, you never have the ball in space for more than a second with a horde of players always around you.

I can see how they have tried to copy PES on nearly every aspect of play. From the turning on the ball, playing to the farthest man when holding down pass and the lofted thruball.

Please tell me that pressing Y or Triangle isnt the way to play a throughball, as they were horrible. I like my throughballs along the deck with abit of pace and played at a nice angle. All I got here was a slightly dinked short pass played almost direct to the player.

Just as I thought I couldnt dislike it much more this went and happened:
(admittedly its only a demo, it did make me laugh and cry)

They had a goal kick, all my players for some reason were stood on the touchline behind there keeper. He launches it upfield and they are through on goal and score as my players race back to try and save the day!

Anybody who plays, watches and studies football several times a week should know that FIFA is nauseating.

Thats just a laughable trolling comment.

Yeh it did, i think 04 or 05 on PES had the option to play as a single player.

Its not a new concept, Kick Off : Player Manager in the 80's did a fantastic job of the solo role in a game.

Have just been reading Maxim (I know, not a games magazine..but they DO like their football/games) - they done a quick review of both and preferred PES2009. Some of the reviewers noted that PES2008 wasn't quite up to scratch but they're back to form with this new release. Biggest thing against FIFA09 (as I and others have mentioned) is the sluggishness; something I've ALWAYS disliked about the FIFA games of late.

Can't wait! Won't bother with FIFA again as it always disappoints.

All these people putting their life and mortgages on FIFA, now having panic attacks that they have left behind a better series......

Personally, unless PES is back to its basic best - I wont buy either game, as a football fan both companies spit on me with their arcade, waste of disc space games.
