First PES 2009 Review

I know mate, 1 of my main gripes with 08 was that you could run the pitch in about 3 seconds lol, it just didn't feel very realistic. The 'in what way' part was meant for the later part of the +.

I was going to post that also but didn't wanted to get jumped on for trolling. funny how the +s are not really commenting on gameplay lol that's an excellent +. Also the other + ok i'm glad it's slower....better overall...How? In what way? would have been nice for them to explain how it is :p

Could do with reading all review though.

Well, the review doesn't really mention lots of positives. Which is why I think it's a poor review, the score doesn't really match up to the content.

They say player likeness such as someone that isn't skillful not being able to do the moves is accurate, unlike FIFA.

Remember this is their words not mine :)

Anyway, I'm not really going to judge this game until I play it. However the fact that the commentary is still as bad as last years has already put me off. FIFA is miles ahead in every department of presentation. How can Konami get the Champions League license and not even apply it to master league?

It's been a while since I trusted a Pro Evo review, so that 88% doesn't mean a whole lot to me.

The scores have been getting lower, but it's an almost begrudging acceptance that the series in decline, not a true representation of how far the series has gone down hill.

Going by the scores the old versions used to get, 88% isn't even a full point drop on a 10pt scale.

“PES 2009 is the official game of Team England, allowing official kits and, better, a realistically rendered new Wembley.”

“Everything that was ‘broken’ in last years game is largely, if not entirely, fixed. Slowdown? Good as gone - in over ten games in multiple stadiums, we barely noticed it.”

“The weather’s dynamic too, so showers mutate into downpours as play progresses - with weather dependent on the country and stadium.”

“It’ll be possible to share Option Files online.”

“It’s still possible to streak pass multipls defenders.”

This is new:

You can now put the radar anywhere on the screen.

You can draw emblems from scratch.

There’s a range of licensed footwear.

You can now preview hairstyles from a menu.

Im guessing scans are not allowed?

Well i will clear up review

* Same magazine gave PES 2008 86% last year.

* Also they end with the game lacks ideas (imo must have incredible patience why not say that last year)

Its all one person opinion end of day and the scans of Fifa 09 review are on net.

- Longer replays
- 59 tracks for you to pick and choose to have playing on any menu
- Players seen to bend down and pull socks up during breaks in play
- Red icon appears over player when tired
- Referees will show cards in-game rather than cut scenes
- Players can be heard shouting for you to pass
- 30 types of boots
- Upload your photo and use it to create your likeness in game
- You can scan badges to use as logo’s or sponsors
- Audioless interaction between players and the media in Master League
- Choose your teams chants in the ML option menu
- Better players can shoot more accurately and consistently
- Defenders throw themselves at the ball to perform a block tackle
- 74 types of goal celebration

I saw you're OP :p

Yes it does and frankly it's becoming a bit of a pain for those of us that may actually be interested in this game and not Fifa. This isn't the Fifa thread. I don't feel the need to go into the fifa thread and keep saying how much I like the feel of Pro Evo and Fifa's controls are as responsive as playing with your feet.

This thread has been trashed, may as well be locked.

It's because a lot of the Fifa lads are former PES boys and are ****ed off with what appears to be Konami releasing the same old rehashed **** every year. Add to that the fact that Fifa has taken another giant leap forward this year, you are bound to get heavy criticism in here.

Feel free to **** Fifa as much as you want, it does have it's faults.

Anyway, is there actually a demo coming out for this or what? I want to see if it deserves the time of day...

very true you can do the showboating tricks with any player in fifa try it with a goalie in the demo
not so in pro evo
commentary in any sport game is repetitive i just turn it off from the start

dunno about 09 but in Fifa 08 my team (newcastle)

Given, the defense and butt and geremi can't do many skills

You can do some but not all, such as skills you'd might see ronaldo doing a goalie or defender can't do. Go back to fifa 09 demo and try all the skill moves with a defender/goalie, they cannot a lot.

Ok I am going to add some perspective to this to show you how the view has swung. These are comments PRIOR to last years game being released based on the demo and videos.

Notice the names ;)
Note before hand for you sensitive types this is very tongue in cheek. I have a very good memory.

I can't remember the last time Fifa was even close to Pro Evo. Despite the latest version being poor in comparison to previous years, it was still way ahead of Fifa.

You shouldn't really ever expect top notch graphics from Pro Evo.

Don't see how it matters anyway, given that most people will play it from a view where you can't make out the detail.

Everything about the way Fifa plays just feels and looks wrong. They motion capture far too much and when the animations are all put together they somehow just don't look at all realistic.

I couldn't care for snazzy menu's and popular music as long as the gameplay is good I'm happy.

I'm not being funny, but the last thing on Konami's mind is 'we have to close the gap on Fifa'.

You prefer Fifa, and I respect your opinion, but Pro Evo is so widely considered to be far ahead of Fifa or any other footie game that the idea of Konami even bothering what Fifa does is just ludicrous. .

FIFA just leaves me dissapointed, every time. I dont think this will ever change.

Roll on October.

Wait for fifa 2008 :D the best football game there is.

I take it you've played it?

Now lets see what some said about the fifa07 demo....

I was hoping for more from FIFA 08 but that looks as bad as 07.

Same old rubbish as far as I'm concerned.

FIFA doesn't stand a chance until they decide to throw out the entire engine and start from scratch.

Ughh I got all excited and powered my 360 up to find no Fifa07 :(

lucky escape mate

Of course there was plenty more I just cherry picked those, but is it that unbelievable to think that you have been wrong once and could be again?

Now FIfa fan girls get the **** out of the PES thread ;)

sorry, but you can't do the showboating tricks with any player in fifa

And Dannyjo22...you have far too much time on your hands!

The main problem with pro evo last year was online being unplayable, if they fix this and had the same game as last year, id probably be happy enough, the fact they have slowed it down and made other improvements is a good thing, i still think its a more fun single player game, due to the online **** ups, i played fifa last year which was great online.

The one thing that troubles me about the fifa demo is the power of shots, that will annoy me too much that things look to have no power, i can only hope its corrected, as it takes the shine off it for me, for what looks to be a great game.

That's just pointing out the turn around some of us have been banging on about for the past year :p. FIFA must have something for there to be such a swing. These quote are from this very thread, so nobody is under any illusions about how much of a 180 it has been to now enjoy FIFA:

That's fair enough, but it often takes people a while to get into Fifa. When I first played it I was like wtf's this, the players felt like oil tankers compared to PES. After a while though you do get used to it and can't imagine going back, it's worth giving the demo a go at least.
Was the same for me, I thought wtf is this **** when I first tried it. FIFA does seem to take a lot of time to get used to for most people, but once you get there it is very good.

At least one of my comments was made after actually playing the FIFA 08 demo (probably the one where I'm most critical tbh) which is why I've always said FIFA can take a lot of effort to get into, and even then some won't be able to accept certain parts of the gameplay (the control of the players being the main complaint by far).

And as for being wrong "again", although my name does pop up a few times in your post, I actually think I've been relatively kind to what we've seen of Pro Evo 2009 so far. It might not be enough for me, but I've yet to condemn it as the piece of **** I originally though FIFA 08 was. :p
I think it looks ok, better than I expected it could. There's some obvious changes that take it a lot closer to the older versions, but I don't know if that will be enough for me. I don't even think very good would be enough for me anymore, for me to get back into it I think Pro Evo would probably have to blow me away like ISS Pro 98 and ISS Pro Evo did. However, judging from the few videos I've seen, I predict anyone who quite liked 2008 will love 2009.

Because the quality of the games has flipped.

Although as I've said, I think people who were into 2008 will love 2009 so you could be in luck. But honestly, Pro Evo is nothing compared to what it used to be. FIFA doesn't touch it either to be fair, but it has turned into a good footie game which will do for me.
I can see signs that they've tried to get closer to previous games in the series, but to me 97% says it belongs with the very best versions and I just don't believe that will be the case.

So **** you. :D :p

This is the first one I'm not buying on release, I just feel too burned by the last two, and I used to buy every single one on release from PS1 onwards (hell, I used to buy all the Japanese PS2 versions! AND the Pal versions).

But in my personal opinion, the last two 360/PS3 versions just haven't FELT right, it's interesting that playing the PS2 version last year after the 360 one was like night and day, I felt that one (the PS2 version) was one of the best entries into the series I'd played for some time...

The shooting can be very strange, sometimes it seems to float and other times you can hit a screamer(mostly a floater though)

- the shooting system is awkward, it's hard to score outside the box as the ball usually goes over the bar. It's also difficult to sore from certain angles in the box, but apparently after a while it's easier.

It also seems this years PES shooting system isn't too good also :(

i'm the same honestly I was so disappointed with last years release i gave it away. Winning Eleven J League 2007 was a far far far far better game the improvements made from pes6 were welcomed.. but that trash last year made me so disappointed :(

Fifa is at least getting up to standard now and making the choice harder rather than just relying on its licensing. I've played Euro 2008 non stop since i've had it and PES2009 will have to be special to get me play it now and have a fully working online mode.. i'll not be embarassed to play fifa09
