Hi, ive had the striker 2 extreme board for a month now tweaking away and after much research ive generally found that it has been labelled as a problem board.. I have just managed to get it extremely stable and heres the settings and config etc
1333 linked fsb
ocz reaper x 1333 ram
6-5-5-18 1T
No northbridge watercool
cosmos s chassis
gx9800x2 quad sli
4162mhz core 2 extreme 9650
vcore 1.6
loadline calib disabled
pll 1.5v
vtt 1.32v
mem 1.84 v
nb 1.5v
sb 1.5v
everything else is auto

Im pleased with the overall overclock and stability was assumed after sisoft burn in test x4, pc mark vantage x2, cinebench x 4, in this order without shutdown..
bios 0114 (latest)

the only probs ive had is that i cant shutdown or open programs in windows if the pc has been on for over 5 hours>> without interaction

I would love to get to 1600 fsb but the board/memory is being stubborn however just to confirm these stable settings for profile saving i would appreciate feedback as to how i can fine tune the voltages etc as im pretty sure that there are some settings that ive listed that may be overkill ie vcore??
i use a coolIt elite for the cpu and temps dont go above 52...
i think that this is a reasonable overclock and i would love to start gaming now but i do have the bug and want to squeeze as much as i can out of the system so any advice is appreciated.

I would never use OCZ Memory in a Asus Mobo

I an not saying you cant use OCZ and cant run well but Asus do not REC them in their list.

OCZ claim in a stickie in their Forums that Asus use non standard Nvidia Bios which acts up with their Memory (ofcoarse they do as they don't make Nvidia Ref Mobo's, and even EVGA got a mention who do use Ref Mobos).

Also a lot of peeps on XS do not even rate OCZ anyhow and nor do I after owning some Memory and a so called quiet PSU.

If you stuck some Corsair esp Dominator in their it would fly but it cost a lot more.

Buy some, quick sharp. When i brought it i was fortunate with the price, £135 from here. I had a feeling it would go up too. It's still well worth it at that price though, 1800mhz on stock volts and timings and i've not read a single instance saying otherwise. Working flawlessly with my 790i board. You could spend more on the CAS7 version but the £100 extra is a bit steep.

Echo helmuts words on the OCZ parts well, especially the 'quiet' psu!

Exactly what ive been reading!!! ocz has poor compatibility with the striker 2!!! I know, i will order some corsair dominator asap... If only id found this out before.... Is there anything usefull that this ram could be used for after though? maybe a portable lan party pc? but theyre ddr2 arent they ??
anyway, looks like another complete system overhaul or will those new sticks of ram be plug and play??? as for the other mentioned settings earlier, do you think ive overdone any of the voltages and should i use loadline calib??? also shall i aim for a 1600mhz stable fsb?? I want my system to fly!!!thanks

Quick question... If the motherboard supports up to 1600 (oc) as stated how can it reach 1800??? this has always puzzled me. Does this mean that its only been tested successfully at this speed and anything higher cannot be guaranteed?? Before im labelled a noob or whatever i just have to ask and ive done well considering this is my first build...

Through overclocking :) No CPU at the moment has such a high fsb at stock, so you can only reach it through overclocking. All 790i ultra (AFAIK - The main ones do) boards support upto 2000mhz fsb providing your CPU and RAM can get there.

The Asus Striker II Extreme (Non Ultra and Ultra Chipset) 1 has official support for 1600mhz Memory and other 2000mhz Memory obv both are OC'd.

Also the OCZ issues are not tied to just that model, its same for NF680I and NF780I and at a guess all Asus Mobos as they do all use non Ref Bioses.

I dunno... with 4-3-3-7 timings on my OCZ 6400 Reaper @ 950MHz on stock voltage and getting 12,000MB/s read speeds I'm not complaining :D

Tho I do have to laugh at their "quiet"/"silent" PSUs even tho I own several gameXStream and a stealthxtreme they are quite reliable and run cool but they are very NOT silent.

Well I still wouldn't use OCZ with Asus boards... but thats another story infact I wouldn't touch an asus board with a bargepole any more.

"with 4-3-3-7 timings on my OCZ 6400 Reaper @ 950MHz "

wow!!!

ive ordered the dominators so should see an improvement... but the above timings on this board seem special dont you agree???

what are non ref bioses and their pros and cons?

Whats so bad about asus boards??? ive ordered a rampage extreme for a second build
