If you were given a voucher for OcUK that allowed you to buy the parts for any computer you wanted, what would you buy?
I'll lay down some rules so we don't get anything silly:
1) You can only build one machine - no NAS servers or anything like that to go with it.
2) As per rule #1, you can only buy one motherboard.
3) You can only buy components that can fit on the board you choose. No SATA/IDE controller cards. No spare parts. Peripherals are fine, but don't go too over the top (eight mice or something daft).
4) You can only buy as many monitors as you can run directly off the graphics card(s). If you buy a WQXGA monitor (e.g. the Dell 3008WFP which runs at 2560x1600, product code MO-023-DE) dual-DVI is required and you can't "just run it at 1920x1200 instead".
5) You can only buy one case and it has to be left stock - no modifying it to fit extra stuff in it.
6) The parts MUST be on the OcUK site - no future stock or stuff you expect to be in-store soon.
7) No rigs that are just posted to bend the rules.
Also, try to be creative and make something interesting. Don't just go through each category and find the most expensive device from each. We don't want to see 20 machines all with the same spec. Find a machine that suits you - if you like a quiet machine choose quiet parts. If you're environment conscious, build something that's green and energy saving. Try to make your machine reflect you as an individual.
