This could only happen to me :(:(

Seriously, at the times when everything is cool and going well, everything is fine but when I am in a position to do nothing about anything, it all hits the fan.

It happened with the MR2 blowout incident, it happened with the 325 getting nicked and now its struck again....

... Last night on the way home I am pretty sure the timing chain snapped. Thinking back, I am now fairly sure I heard the valves clattering the pistons, which isn't going to have done them or the pistons much good.

No idea what to do now :'(

When you called me last night and said "the car let-go on me on the A34", I was actually expecting an MR2 style incident. Couldn't believe the chain had gone :(

Also; AA membership that only covers home/roadside start is useless!

:( Crap, echo the above, find a replacement engine? That car has got to be worth saving, it looked great in the pics.

Sympathy for car being nicked followed by expensive engine brokeness disaster of replacement car for you dude.

Complete lack of surprise that near on quarter million mile old car suffers terminal engine failure though.
I know a guy who's got a shed load of BMW engines and the like, i'll see what he has in.

ive had a couple good friends over the years with this engine, one in an e36 and one in an e30, very durable and go on and on, hence i think its a shame this one died.

a cam chain (was it an intercam chain?) is going to be pretty hard to detect if its on its way out.

new engine wont be too hard to sort out though. you can do it for free if you get a CHEAP 525, pinch the engine, sell the good bits and scrap the rest
