1-2k wont really buy you a shining example of either. Both are totally different cars too, but I think the 300 will be a money pit compared to the FTO. You'd have to double your figure to include running costs.

I am having trouble deciding between a 911 C4 and a Fiat Ducato, same boat as me, tough isnt it :(

Exactly, comparing a 200ish BHP Japanese coupe with another 200ish BHP Japanese coupe is frankly ridiculous!

Thought the 300ZX's were a bit more than that? At least 250bhp, and RWD, and turbo. Then again, theyre so old now Id expect them to not put out much past 200bhp.

To answer the question the FTO would be the better bet. The 300's are massively complicated nightmares at this budget, they look incredibly dated, and the budget doesnt look to be anywhere near one.

as I own a 300zx TT I can safely say you will need lots of spare cash, unless its had all the known niggles already sorted in which case you wont be paying anything like £2k for one more like £4, but they are wicked fun to drive and I personally don't think they look that dated with a bit of detango'ing and some nice wheels

The 300ZX has aged poorly, wheras the FTO is up there with the Supra in terms of lasting freshness :)

The FTO's manage to look fresh and still reasonably good looking on the outside whilst they rot away on the inside.

They are aweful for rusting, my mates has terrible rust patches on the roof, mind the bird droppings may have had something to do with that aswell, you dont see many modern cars rusting, which is why this fto was a shockto the system.

We've got a E220 which is just as bad tho:(

As for the topic in hand, I'd go for the 300zx as i think the engine sounds really nice in the TT, its not a particularly fun car to drive tho, much more of a cruiser.

I can't believe how common FTOs have became in the last year or two, or at least they have in Plymouth anyway.

There is a ghastly blue one with a, what I think, is a Veilside kit on. The spoiler on that kit never ceases to crack me up.

V6 FTO's are not quick, especially semi-auto ones. Whooped one in a 23 year old saab turbo not in the best of health...

There are no less than 4 variants of V6 FTO's, some of which are quick some not so. The GPX Mivec with a manual gearbox is reasonably quick with 200bhp, 1200kg and 0-60 in circa 6.8 seconds.

Saying 'FTO's are well slow' is a bit like saying 'Vauxhall Astras are slow'. Well yes, some of them are..

The OP said "it needs to be an auto box".

Looks like the FTO GPX then ,may go up to 3 k just a bit worried if the tiptronic goes wrong (paid 2k on my last recon auto box will just scrap next time) anyone know how reliable they are ?

Have heard that if you race it in manual then switch to auto it will try to copy this and continue to rev high ,seems a bit daft if its true

thanks for the comments so far :)
