Just bought a Plasma. What now?

lads im looking to buy a TH42PZ80 any chance u can confirm what it looks like through the pc via hdmi>dvi?

ive seen various conflicting reports and some from people who cant get a full screen image i bet hier just not putting it in 16:9 mode!

anyways could you check and tell me if it takes 1920x1080/60hz from the pc and 1:1 map it with no problem?

with overscan off is it a full screen image and how does it look? pin sharp and amazing? :D

I set overscan to 0% and then another setting in the 4870 control panel to 0% as well (can't remember it's name). Now it's totally fine and full screened properly.

i couldnt get a full screen image (was about 15mm from all the edges at default) so i set overscan ON on the tv and on the GPU. Now it fills the screen.

I have my HTPC running at 1920x1080 @ 60hz (also have the option for 50Hz/40Hz/30Hz/24Hz).

Not sure about 1:1 but i've set it to maintain aspect ratio.....dont know if thats 1:1 mapping???

Am i using the right settings?
Im confused now?

how can i get 1:1 mapping?

I think i might need to turn Overscan off on the Plasma and increase it in ATi Control Panel. But some how i still dont think thats 1:1 is it...?

1:1 would be default settings (overscan "off "on plasma and "off" in ati control panel) but this would mean that the image would not go to the edges of the screen (15mm in from all edges).

Any ideas/comments....

well ive read the same thing happening it not coming to all sides which is weird.

turn overscan on the tv off and set aspect ratio on the tv to either auto or 16:9

thats all i know off and cant igure out why u even have overscan on a 1080p telly using the correct res.

is there any stretching going on does it look pin sharp?

If you have an ATI card, try going in to the ccc > DTV:
Attributes > Image scaling > enable image scaling to off
Scaling options > Overscan to 0%

Then in the TV set Overscan to 0% as well.

This should get 1:1 mapping, I'm using HDMI port 2 with blu-ray player in 1.

THANK YOU

Followed those steps and now i get 1:1 mapping :)
The source of the problem was Ati ccc where overscan was set to 15%

any idea how it would work with nvidia? im using the latest whql ones and the flat panel scaling all options are greyed out!

its normally set to use the displays built in scaling i remember a few days ago it worked and i was like hmm this has never worked before but now its greyed out again :(

really would love a plasma as my gaming monitor :D

I dont know mate but on my ATi Control Centre it picks up my plasma and all of the settings it can do which i think is fab! It has all the settings i can possibly want through the HDMI. And gaming on a 50" Plasma =

yea its ok if nvidia has like 0% default overscan but if its like ati 15% and u cant adjust then well im screwed and ill just wait and buy an ati card.

there is a reg edit for nvidia it lets you resize the desktop but to me that just scaling and it has to introduce artifacts as its not real 1:1 i dont think....

hopefully someone with a nvidia card comes on and lets me know :s
