Well, it's barely been 2 weeks since I installed it, but my 900W Tagan Piperock, is dead!

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp... PipeRock TG900-BZ 900w Modular BZ Series PSU

Was using the computer earlier, just browsing the net, and the pc turned off.

Tried turning it on, nothing.

Turned power off, left it a while, nothing.

The motherboard Power LED was on still, but even a pretty-much dead PSU would still give off enough power i'd imagine to power an LED!

Replaced kettle plug ... Nothing

Borrowed a Corsair 450W Psu, plugged in, works straightaway.

Tried the Tagan on another PC ... nothing.

So definately faulty!

Strange thing is, im using a 450W Corsair PSU to power;

Asus Rampage formula
Q9450@3ghz
4GB Ocz Reaper
Gainward 8800GT Golden Sample
2 x Samsung 1TB Hard drives
2 x Optiarc DVD-RW drives
Asus Silentknight CPU Cooler

Antec 1200 case with 6 case fans ( 5 x 120mm + 1 x 200mm )

And it seems stable! I better not speak to soon! But just goes to show, all these figures about power supplies!

Anyway, im gonna RMA it and probably look to get a less flashy PSU, but one that actually works, tempted by a Corsair...

I keep plugging it, but that's because I rate it. Get the one in my sig., unbeatable in it's price range.

My Tagan died too.. After a day.

Got an emermax modu82+ 625w modular psu, it isnt as shiny but its superb :)

Edit: just noticed OCUK sell them now too. They didnt when I got it a few weeks back :(

I know this is way overkill, but I ordered the 1000W Corsair.
I didn't think the 620W was enough, and the next modular version was 1000W! So I kinda had no choice lol unless I went for another manufacturer, which I did not want to.

I may go SLi or Crossfire (dependant on cards I choose/mainboard at the time) in future, and of course, it will still be way more than I need, but I was OK to pay the extra money out for this PSU.

The 450W Corsair will go back in the other PC which is only a basic one.

:/

why didnt you think it would be enough?

I've been posting about the Tagan Piperock psus been pants for the last few weeks.

Tagan seems to have gone downhill reliability wise very quickly.

1kw is overkill, I have a very similar rig but iut's running at 3.6GHZ, 8gb ram, watercooled, so uses a little more power and the corsair HX620 powers it perfectly. The 520 would work fine as well, but if you've got money to burn then maybe the 1kw is for you ;) :p

What PSU should I need for:

Asus Rampage Formula X48
IC2D E8600
Noctua NH-U12P
GeIL 4GB 8500 1066MHz
HD 4870 X2 (x2 Crossfire)
Samsung 640GB F1
Samsung SH-S223Q DVD-RW (x2)
Antec 900

Would the Coolermaster 850W Modular be decent enough?

Corsair HX620 would be better
