Volvo 850R

Do this, Rickard Rydell's tourer :D

On topic, very comfortable for long distance and near bullet proof if treated right,

dad had one as a temporary car through his work for a while, T5 auto estate in turquoise with beige leather.. a fashionable car it was not

from the time i had driving it, it was quite fast.. not 'really' fast, but it accelerated well and it being a heavy car this made it impressive.

it was comfortable, quiet and would do 70mph with the autobox locked into 2nd :D

Aerodynamic Wardrobes but may get one one day to see what it was all about. T5-R's were the estate to own (If you needed an estate that is) back in the days before RS-4 and the like.

They will do circa 90mph in second gear ;)

*sulks*

the syston road has too many corners in it for that speed sadly, plus my channelling of the voice of Tony Mason (easy left, hard right!) was tempered by my father in the passenger seat complaining about his fuel economy :D

A firend of mine used to have an 850 T5 auto running a smidge higher boost than standard. On kickdown the way it would take off at motorway speeds was unreal, say 70-90.

I know it's often used as a vile speed comparison, much the same as "keeps up with scoobys" and that type of drivel, but it really was impressive how it took off like a scalded cat, even at motorway speeds.

in gear accel is where it is at on these cars. 0-60 aint great but get it in the sweet spot and it can scare some quite fast cars. My mate has a V70 T5 a lot of people know what it is but then you do get a fair few thinking its just a old volvo tbh and they get shown up in due course. :). I drove it back from essex a couple of months back was fun.

No, the 850R was. People seem to think the T5-R was the highest model, but it was down from the 850R.

A friend of mine once had a T5-R, it was rather fast. I remember think something that unaerodynamic just shouldn't go that fast, but it did!

The autobox took a while to make it's mind up when a bit of a spirited getaway was required which was one of the main gripes with the car, and the fact it cost quite a lot to keep on the road (the reason he sold it on).

The 850R manual is the one to go for. The T5R and all the others are less powerful & not as rare. People get confused thinking the T5R is the top of the range, but it wasn't.

The 850R manuals are 250bhp standard, but will remap (£300) to around 275 - 295bhp depending on the condition of the engine etc.

Much faster than most things on the road. Never going to be great from standing start due to the 2wd and weight, but once rolling there's not much that will keep up. A real sleeper and good for 150mph+ with ease, and a boot load of fishing gear and lager in the back.

Petrol not too bad at about 20 - 30mpg depending on driving style.

Servicing / maintenence not too bad either, but beware there are lots of dogs out there which haven't been looked after properly. These will cost thousands to put right.

Just sold mine after 18 months of ownership. Best car I've ever had.

T5 was the first one and the least rare. 225bhp
T5-R was a limited edition on M-N plates available in dark green and the lemon yellow (I like it). The T5-R had 240 bhp, sports bumpers, suspension ( I think) and the 5 spoke wheels.
850R superseded the T5-R and had 250bhp, sports bumpers but more refined suspension and LSD (I think). However it did not come in yellow, looks stunning in the red though!
