Hi,

My brother has a new Onkyo 606 receiver and we've spent the weekend setting it up. We can get Dolby Digital and DTS from his DVD player but we aren't getting Dolby Digital from Foxtel HD. I'm sure its a setting with the Onkyo that is wrong because the sound output from Foxtel HD is set to AC3 and we've tried both Coax and Optical. We're viewing the channels that are showing as broadcasting in DD, such as BBC HD, Nat Geo HD etc.

In the input section for the receiver we have :

Input Mode Preset

DVD Player
Analog/PCM - Last Valid
Dolby Digital - Dolby Digital
DTS - DTS

Foxtel - Cable/Sat
Analog/PCM - PLII Movie
Dolby Digital - Dolby Digital

So why are we getting surround from the DVD player and not Foxtel ?

Any help appreciated !

Cheers

It displays many different stereo/mono modes except Dolby Digital from Foxtel HD.

When a DVD is played the Dolby Digital red icon is displayed on the LCD panel.

How is the Foxtel box connected to the amp? It's optical I assume, therefore the box should be set to optical.

Isn't satellite 2 channel? In which case it'll only come out of the front two speakers, and not in full surround. You'll need to set the amp to run in DD or DD2 to 'force' it into surround.

exactly what does it display? if you can select doubly prologic II or the dts neo modes then the box isnt sending dolby digital to the amp - so the problem lies with the box, not the amp.

Unless he hasn't got it connected to the amp via a digital connection, or it's via HDMI and the box is only compatible with 2ch audio over HDMI like the Sky HD box.
