If recommending ikea make sure it's not tat - I find most their cheap stuff is awful!

Willing to spend up to £200 on each item.

All help MUCH appreciated.

Wardrobe
Want a large 3 door, white modern wardrobe - not some veeneer thing flimsy rubbish that you often get from Argos.

Bed
King or Queen size - solid looking bedframe in wood.

Sofa
Again something modern, no idea what style.

DFS sofa's are crap at the higher end of the price scale, i wouldnt want a £200 one for anything other than helping to sell a property. certainly wouldnt want to live with one!

For wardrobes yes. For bed frames maybe. For sofas and matresses no.

The sofas are uncomfortable and the matresses are a wacky size to force you to buy their bed linen. Nothing wrong with putting a slightly smaller standard mattress in one of the frames though, that's what I did for the spare room.

I suppose I could go second hand for all of it, but if i can afford something enw I'd rather have it.

Maybe second hand is the best method?

Do you need a mattress to go with the bed? If you do you wont even get the mattress for the budget you have set aside for the whole thing....

I would have said MFI... they have improved over recent years... but I think they are about to go into administration or something... :/

I just bought my bedroom furniture from there. Started at £1225 and got it down to £796.

Always ask for a discount! ;)

Tbh if you get a bed frame/sofa it will break for £200

I remember a few years back my mum bought a £700 sofa from somewhere like MFI and it snapped pretty soon, our neighbour checked it out and the wooden frame was *****

£200 on each item? Good luck...that's already pushing it before you state that you dont want tat!

You'll be able to pick up pine or chipboard for those sorts of prices, nothing more. Whilst I probably wouldn't spend more than £200 on a bedframe/wardrobe, I wouldn't go in with my eyes shut.

I even say £600 for a sofa is a push, unless you're willing to have the springs go early and it be little more than firewood.

Have you not got an option to save a bit longer?

Buy the wardrobe and bedframe second hand, get the sofa and matress new is another option, spending whats ever left from £600 on the sofa/matress.

I've got a decent bedframe for just over £100 from argos. It was only a double and a metal frame so not exactly what you were looking for.

It has however managed to survive the transition from home to student apartment without getting at all wobbly or showing signs of damage. Had it about a year now and I'm not very gentle with things. I do suspect the wooden/larger ones might be a bit less durable though.

We also had one of the £100 sofas from IKEA, though that was definately cheap foam tat :p

I have a metal frame bed going free if you want it :p its an IKEA one though, so slightly bigger than a normal double bed.

Depends where in London you are though lol.

£699 minimum on a sofa.

My wardrobe was £429 with a free tall chest of drawers.

Bed frame was £169

Harveys also do decent wardrobes.

cheers guy.

Well i wai till i get the house before i go about spending the cash or buying things. Saying that I just bought a dining table!

I think Ebay/second hand is the way to go.

I've just gone through the process of purchasing a bed and sofa for my first flat. I tried loads, cheap ones from DFS (and the like), sofas from IKEA and then a few bed places. In the end I decided it wasn't worth spending 300/400 on a cheap one from DFS as I'll only need to replace it sooner. Plus, there is no point in buying a crazy colour as it then makes it harder to decorate.

So in the end settled for a ridiculously comfortable 2 seater and 'snuggler/loveseat' or whatever you want to call it for ~£1200, but it also comes with a good guarantee unlike ikea/dfs sofas which were quite uncomfortable. John Lewis have some absolutely awesome sofas, the digby is well recommended!

I also reasoned that I shouldn't skimp on my bed as a third of my life is spent there. I've slept on many memory foam 'toppers' so decided to get a decent mattress... I tried plenty out, including cheap ones, but again spent a little more ~£850 (inc delivery) but again has a very long guarantee, is a pocket sprung / memory foam jobbie and won't need replacing anytime soon. We almost fell asleep in store!

Spend a little more now and you'll be better in the long run... however, I'm going to buy a stupidly cheap dining table and chairs :p

I paid £180 for my mattress alone, if you buy crap, expect it to be just that!

Sofa - Try Land of Leather, your budget will probably have to stretch a little, but you should be able to buy a nice 3 seater for around £200-£300.

Bed - I know you don't like the idea of Argos, but you can't go wrong with a Pine or Metal Framed bed, not the most attractive, but functional.

Wardrobe - Ikea. I've just bought a lovely 2-Door wardrobe, and it cost less than the chest of drawers in the same style, the options there are vast.
