Cursed :(

Spoken to the guy I bought it from, he is sympathetic and offering to help out, though I don't know exactly how at the moment.

He called me back straight after I sent him a text message about it and has sent me a text since then about it all, so its looking fairly good :)

Do the chains actually have a service interval?

As I understand they're supposed to last and last?

They can get loose over time which causes a rattling like noise on some cars etc so need to be checked from time to time IIRC!

Ah yes that's right. Remember reading it now that they normally rattle a fair bit before giving way.

yup, they can stretch, they do on old old golfs and you lose performance because the intercam timing is out of spec

then thye can snap but on an engine like mine there are not "guides" for them to rattle against. not sure about his M50

Agh hard lines DRZ. I recall reading how you said it felt much smoother and nicer than your previous engine. :( As everyone reckons, hopefully new engine shouldn't be too much trouble. Any luck finding location to do it?

I hope the seller can be of some help, not sure how though!

Found an engine in Staffordshire at an acceptable price.

I just need to figure out how to get it to the Wirral to do the swap and then I am sorted!

Anyone know of any very cheap van hire companies?

Cheshire van rental, as I said to you before ;)

Get on MSN you lazy bum.

£33 or thereabouts when I rented one to go get my leon engine.

I have a replacement lump for the E34!

I shall be prepping tomorrow evening and then fitting it during the day on Monday (day off at long last!) and possibly well into the night if things don't go to plan.

If anyone is in the area and is good mechanically, feel free to pop over to lend a hand / encouragement / make tea :p

Are you in the Ghetto still or back in the Wirral? Depends where im working but i could come over for a bit if im working locally.

Depends on the car.

On the original Saab 900 the official replacement mileage is 125K, however everyone waits until the chain starts to rattle as the tensioner runs out of travel and replaces it then. My 9000 is currently at 270K and still on its original chain but it has generally lead an easy life.
