Micro Helicopters advice please ??

unlike the 4#3b although it does come in the end ;)

what is build quality like on these I really dont like the design of the tailboom on my 4#3b the way the screw crushes the boom. also think the quality of the screws are really bad.

The build quality of the lama's is good, it's bigger than the 4#3b so everything's more chunky.

I don't use the screws for the tail boom on my 4#3b, just a bit of CA glue at each end, mines trimmed perfectly now, I can take off and hover hands free for at least 10 seconds.

I've also just ordered a Belt CP, hopefully it'll be here tomorrow.

Just about finished the build of a Trex 500, big brother for the 450. Looks fantastic and a really nice build, easier than the 450 as not as fiddly. Scary big though.

:D

I went from PicooZ -> HoneyBee FP -> HoneyBee King :D

I was going to go for the king 2 but wanted a brushless setup without forking out extra, the king 2 would have worked out the same price as the belt cp if I bought an outrunner + new ESC.

Next up is a Spektrum DX6i + receiver and a new headlock gyro, once I get the hang of a 450 size I'll start looking at getting a larger t-rex or raptor.

INext up is a Spektrum DX6i

I had a play with my brother in law's DX6i on the weekend, what a lot of radio for the money. I have a DX7 as I bought a while back but if i was buying now the Dx6i is such good value. I wouldn't be surprised if they lose money or just breakeven on it originally and then start to make money as you buy more receivers, like console companies with games.

I also have a DX6i :o

Why must my hobbies be so expensive :p (£400 to date on various things and I don't even crash much!).

Jinxed myself saying that, ended up coming down to earth on a knife edge after attempting a stationary flip.

Got muddled up and lost orientation after flipping it back over and ended up in a neighbours bush, blades, boom, main gear all broke :p

I've just got my 4#3B yay!

Trouble is the main blades flop about more than I'm happy with. It seems to cause slow cyclic response. Anyone know where I can get a set of screwdrivers small enough to fit the tiny main blade screws so I can tighten them up a little bit?
The tiny 1mm screw driver I have is too big!

you can't tighten these tiny blades as much as a bigger heli as they have no weight at all.. they will always flop about I think. (I tried them tight and it caused massive tail wag)

I think the common cause of lack of cyclic is

1 - the collar round main axle that locks in it place has slipped which causes massive play in swash as the whole assembly gets dragged up and down by servos

2 - play in the swash even with everything correct... this can be cured with either a small spring under swash or some kind of tubular collar (MIA sell these and it removes the need for the locking collar on axle which always slips and removes 95% of play)

Thanks,
I'll check the play but I it doesn't look like it's moving anywhere. I wouldn't mind if the main blades only moved back and forwards but they flop about up and down as well.
The manual says, in very bad english, to tighen up the screws as they can cause vibration in flight. My little set of tiny screw drivers don't go small enough!

It's a lot harder to fly than my coax. Great fun though!

You think that's bad?

I pranged my Belt CP on it's maiden flight, blades dug into the ground, stripped the gear and most of that plastic coating off the blades.

Then I managed to demolish my Xtreme skids for the lama V4, smashed the canopy and chipped the blades.

And finally I accidently dropped my tranny on top of my 4#3B and warped the rotor head.

All in one day, a result. The Belt was the cheapest to fix, just over a tenner for a new gear + pre-installed bearing and blades.

got my rafale ducted fan jet from the states, almost 300 quids worth... didn't even get off ground, went into big tumble on ground and it's a write off.

I have since gutted everything out of it and made a radio controlled jet powered cardboard box... I rekon it's good for about 70mph, I'll get some pics up soon lol

maybe the adjuster on the 4in1 electronics is set down to limit cyclic ?, it's on side of the electronics box... moving it should increase servo throw

Brilliant!

Get yoursel some depron from B&Q or some EPP from foamfly and make yourself a foamy with that. You wont regret it!

heh thanks :) ... yeah I thought about it but EDF unit is pretty heavy so it would be a big plane.. I already have a EPP foamy shock flyer, tons of fun...

here is few clips of the crashes that led to this machine :)

i think tarmac was just to bumpy as when it got to speed it just bumped into ait and crashed.. hand launch also failed :(

It's not so much lack of movement, more an elastic band effect.
I give some right, a noticeable pause later, the heli responds by moving right. I centre the sticks and the heli is still moving right.
I give it a bit of left to stop it hitting the wall/sofa/wife, by which time the heli has stopped moving right and then heads off left.
By the time I've done this a couple of times I'm well out of the hover.

Sigh. Maybe just a lack of skill on my part.

yeah I think it will do that... as it's so small a heli it's just a lot more pronounced than on a bigger heli. try to use smaller movements on cyclic maybe so you don't have to compensate so much.

Thread revival!!

My Spektrum DX6i came this week along, still haven't taken my belt CP out since the last time I crashed it as the weather's been shocking.

I've also got a Blade CX2 4in1 ordered to replace the one in my Lama so I can bind the DX6i to that as well.
