Hi all,

im going to look at a mini today, but am tryign to find a insruance company that will look at a mini with a 1300 metro engine in.

does it shoot the insurance through the roof!

the log book still says 848cc but its had the engine changed.

Have you actually tried any companies?

Most companies will then take the insurance group of the car that the engine was from. I can't see a 1300 metro costing much to insure?

Try HIC / Sky insurance / Adrian Flux etc...

You'll need to change the log book too.

id get that changed whilst it was being registered to me.

ive just tried emodified car insurance, and they just ask if the engine change was professional. nothing about what engine was now in it. :(

will try calling up norwich union! they seemed cheapest while not modified

I've found bell seem to not mind modifications, although to get a engine change quote they will want you to phone them up...at least when I tired to run an Mi16 converted 205 on their online system they said 'call us'. :D

they dont do any engine mods at all.

although declaring a exhaust change, wider arches and roll cage only adds £30 a year

HIC are very cheap for MI16 conversions, it's who my girlfriend is with for the 205.

What sort of quotes are you getting btw? I would really go with the "performance" companies as they seem a little more on the ball with modifications.

bell say that the engine is to big for the car lol.

so they wont insure me :(

It's only a mini with a metro engine, christ it's probably not even 100bhp?

Like I said, I'd stop ringing around the main insurers and try the modified group myself who specialize in these things.

just called performance direct. they wont insure me cos im 20 and not 21, there insurance policy put me straight down onto classic insurance! which you have to be 21 for

on a side not, the car is running 79bhp lol

not the quickest thing in the world. cant belive its so hard to insure

My friends has a modified mini, he's 21 with about 3 years no claims it's got a 1275cc engine in, different exhaust system (don't even know if it's legal) and a few other things, £180 for the year with Adrian Flux, in fact it was £230 but he said can you go lower, and they asked him to make an offer.

Best friend who's 20 but has as no ncb, he was a named driver before and this is the first time he's done his own had to pay in the odds of £650 for a mini cooper SI, again a 1275 but modified and sold as by John Cooper.

Big difference there, both with Adrian Flux.

adrian flux just asked for £927 a year

Whaaat?!
Try call them back and ask if they can go lower, mention the HP as well as I believe they are one of the few who take it into account. Because engine size doesn't always mean much.

Although I don't know how much location matters, cars don't usually get stolen here. ;>
