I have one of these for one reason, to stop my airbag and wheel being nicked, as it happened to me about 4 years ago 
(Brand new R32 wheel and airbag worth about £250 second hand at the time)
Like everything mechanical inc. security posts it's a deterrent and thieves are more likely to go for the easier pickings.

The trouble with these is that you obviously need to carry it around with you all the time, when you go shopping (steering wheel in hand), when you go out to a fancy restaurant (steering wheel in hand) when you go to Alton Towers (steering wheel in hand) etc etc.
I would rather let them have the car tbh

You only need to carry it when you take it off, most the time i just stick it under the seat or the boot anyway. Its a deterant that is far less annoying than the disklock. Ideal for when you go away and leave the car on the drive or parked at a mates house.
