Pro's and con's of remapping

Having the 172 remapped, well not strictly true [remapping it myself]

Are there any major downsides to remapping? If so, what are they?

pros

more power
more torque
improved mpg
smoother rev band

cons

void warranty
insurance increase
decrease engine longevity (debatable, but some tuners will say decrease lifetime of 3-5%...but you can't measure that really in real life, and even so 3-5% is pretty negligable)
decrease transmission longevity (especially if with a big power gain)
decreased mpg, if using the extra power a lot

Going to try the cal.98 and maybe the groupN. Most people seem to go for the GroupN so i thought it might be the safe option compared to the custom maps that Henk does.
 
Your remapping your car yourself, and asking what are the downsides to doing it?

Are you sure you are the right person to be doing it?

I don't think hes going to be plugging his laptop in and altering all the tables himself. It going to be like a bluefin remap plug it in it uploads the new map and off you go :)

We have a multi million pound simulator but no rollers :)

This is the equipment i am using

The maps are free to download once you have purchased the hardware and the guys offer 1st rate backup. It has live data logging which can be uploaded and they can then tweak the map further for you.
