If i have power issues, how will they manifest?

Recieved my Leadtek GT280 today, ive only got a 550w antec power supply, so im a bit concerned it wont be man enough for the job.

How would these manifest if it dosent work?

At a guess, random shut downs when gaming, either by the game shutting down or the PC.
What are your other system specs as that would give a better clue.

e8500 @ 4ghz, 2 x 500gb Hard disks, p5q-e deluxe mobo, thats about it

I would think it would be okay, but just keen to keep an eye open for any potential problems.

I can find out the same thing though by just plugging in the card and seeing if it works

I reckon you'd be on the brink with a 550w PSU, other factors as your RAM (oc'd?), optical drives, soundcard, raid card, overclocked v core... etc.. All mounts up

Check the PSU calc out and see as an estimate

Take that PSU calculator with a pinch of salt.

A couple of months ago i calculated my PC power usage using it and it stated i'd use 600+ watts. Actual usage was more like 350w @ full load.

In fact a media machine i just made was stated as using 155 watts but in the end it turns out it uses only 80 watts at full tilt.

There's a safe margin of error and then there's just plain innacurate.

You should be fine if the psu's 12v rail is strong enough for it!

In and running, dont seem to have any problems, ran 3dmark, 15 mins of crysis without any problems.

It should work perfectly. If it doesn't I'd expect shutdowns during gaming.
