I recently bought this system:
"Ultima OC HD 4870 X2" Intel Core 2 Quad Xeon X3350 2.66GHz @ 3.30GHz+ Quad Core DDR2 System
Components are:
Intel Core 2 Quad XEON X3350 2.66GHz Quad Core CPU with 12MB Cache Overclocked too a minimum of 3.30GHz and beyond.
- Arctic Freezer 7 pro CPU Cooler
- Arctic Silver 5 Heatsink compound professionally hand installed by our technicians
- Asus Rampage Formula Intel X48 (Socket LGA775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
- Award winning Corsair Dominator 4GB PC2-8500 CAS5 (2x2GB) Dual Channel Kit
- 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F1 32MB Cache SATA-2 Hard Drive
- ATi Radeon HD 4870 X2 2048MB GDDR5 HDTV/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) DirectX 10 Graphics Cards
- LG GGC-H20L Blu-Ray/HD DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter (Black)
- Corsair TX 750W Next Generation Power Supply
Can anyone tell me what the normal idle and load temps can be for this overclocked CPU with the current cooler? ...and what the max temp is that these CPU's can run at?
I say this because I had read another thread here about people having idle temps in the low 30s.
I then proceeded to d'load OCCT, Real Temp and CoreTemp.
Got the following Idle temps in a cool room (19-22c):
BIOS: 37-39c
Real Temp: 39-43c
CoreTemp: 44-48c
OCCT: 49-54c
I then went to run the OCCT CPU stress test, which ran about 2 secs before aborting and popping up a graph of the CPU reaching 70c.
Apparantly the OCCT cuts off at 70c while showing a TjMax of 95c?
Checked the bios for any dodgy fan settings but they all looked to be neatly disabled (meaning all fans should be running at full speed).
Can anyone confirm if these temps are within limits, or should I be looking for a better spec cooler. If so, can anyone suggest a few cooler that are better than this one and that fit in the Rampage Formula motherboard (the Freezer Pro 7 looks to be about 2mm from the mem dimm
).
