Leeds fined

Tuesday, 30 September 2008.

At an independent Regulatory Commission hearing today, Leeds United were fined £7,500, with a further suspended fine of £12,500, for using an unlicensed agent.

Leeds admitted the charge which related to the use of unlicensed agent Lorenzo Paolo in the signing of Anthony Elding from Stockport County in January 2008.

Leeds were warned as to their future conduct and fined £7,500 with a further fine of £12,500 suspended until 1 September 2010. The suspended fine will be activated should the club be found guilty of any similar breaches of FA Agents Regulations.

The Commission took into consideration the full co-operation of Leeds United throughout this matter and their immediate admission of the charge.

I'll take that. Much better than the doomsayers reckoning Leeds were going to be relegated/docked 20 points, etc.

IIRC Arsenal punishment was worse, for not even signing a player!

The Premiership champions were fined pounds 10,000 and given a suspended transfer ban for negotiating with an unlicensed individual from the Dutch company Foursports. The negotiations concerned Quincy Owusu-Abeyie, who was elevated from a scholarship to professional terms at Highbury, and did not concern transfer dealings with another club.

Arsenal admitted to paying the company, which is listed on the official Fifa website, an agent's fee of pounds 2,000 via the FA, but feel their transparency in the matter has been punished by the governing body.
