Got a machine here with "Vista Home Premium" that I want to upgrade to Vista Ultimate, or in the very least Vista Business.

Now I was always under the impression that a pre-installed machine with Vista on could be upgraded on the fly by purchasing a licence from the Anytime Upgrade website.

But having gone on there, it looks like they send an Upgrade CD (with a new key code) and it does it that way.

Is there no option available to upgrade Vista straight away?

If you have a Vista DVD and I am correct in my thinking, the version of Vista you use is dependent on the serial. Just upgrade it from the CD and enter the key (If you have it)

why do you want to upgrade to the ultimate or businness?
home prem is the same as ultimate with a cut down on some small features.
i trialed the ultimate for 30 days and only thing i found is the screensaver thingy dream(something) and less games and better entertainment centre.

Yes, I agree.

Going from PREM to ULTIMATE or BUSINES is a ridiculous waste of money.

I feel that Business will in reality be a downgrade ( My edition of Business has issues trying to play Media ) and I really dont know anyone who actually uses the extra B/S in Ultimate ???

Now, if you had Vista Basic, thats a different story, but as you have prem, id stick withi t and save your cash for an bum scratcher... At least that will be a worth while purchase.

Well I had to wait for the upgrade DVD to arrive, which it has, and has been upgraded.

As for the 'waste of money' bit, maybe if I was a home user, but needed the Business or Ultimate for it to join into a Domain! Simple!.

Well, thats told me then hasnt it?

Seriosuly then, if you need functions then thats a solid reason.

I just didnt want you to go wasting money for nothing.

LOL! Cheers, sorry if my reply sounded curt, really didn't mean it to come across like that. :)

what do you mean a domain?

Domain, er, a work domain, as in a network of computers in a business environment.

You also get a fax facility on Ultimate, that's a feature I really missed when I went from XP Home to Vista HP - why the cheapskates didn't include fax I'll never know.

Vista Home Prem can't be upgraded to Vista Biz, only Ultimate I'm afraid. If you wanted to use Vista Business on the PC then you would need to purchase a Vista Business license and reinstall windows from scratch as there is no upgrade path offered from Home Prem to Business.

Hope this helps.
