World Vegetarian Day

If you want to 2009 to be 'International Year of lofz' then it can be, just make sure you publicise it better than the vegetarians.

Sounds Good!! ;)

October 1st is World Vegetarian Day, an event that celebrates a healthy, compassionate and environmentally friendly way of life....

I stopped taking it seriously just there... She obviously has never heard of herb/pesticides, the vehicles used to spray and harvest it and the countless animals killed by modern farming techniques, just because you can't see the blood in your bread doesn't mean it's not there.

So unless she eats only home grown food (completely organic of course) she hasn't got a leg to stand on.

I don't have anything against vegetarians.

I DO however hate with a passion, vegetarians who still eat fish. It's a living creature isnt it? Talk about breaking your own rules.

Well technically fruit and veg, especially things like lettuce are also living things. And don't forget about the bateria and amebas you will be eating with them...

That's what gets me, vegetarianism just seems to be about not hurting the fluffy cute little(big) creatures that are easy to see. Anything that doesn't have fur or moo doesn't seem to count.

everyone to there own tbh, I don't see why they should have a day.

They? Like vegetarians are some weird sort of alternate species? :p

It's a fair point though, I have no idea why there needs to be a vegetarian day, every day is a vegetarian day for me so it isn't like I'll be doing anything unusual here. I do feel quite lucky in that I can now go into most restaurants now and there will be at least a few choices for me to eat which wasn't always the case years ago. Maybe this day is simply a hangover from when it was infrequently enough found to merit comment/awareness needed raised and now it could quite happily be dropped as it serves no real purpose.

Or not. I can't speak for all vegetarians here but it isn't just the fluffy creatures I don't want to eat, I don't want to eat anything that has had blood coursing through its veins.

No snails for dinner then....Unless they don't have veins and/or blood.

not necessarily. everything is living. but more people can be fed per square metre planting crops than can be fed per square metre herding animals

By fluffy creatures I didn't just mean bunnies and deer etc. It was a jokey way of saying most vegetarians say they don't eat anything living but in fact only don't eat the things that 1. they can see easily and 2. are classed as being slightly cute by the majority of people. (This is especially aimed at the 'vegetarians' that eat fish, just because it's doesn't have fur and doesn't roam a field doesn't mean it doesn't have as much right to life as a cow/pig/sheep/chicken etc.)

IMO the closest thing to what vegetarians strive for is actually fruitarians (or whatever they are called), that don't eat anything that hasn't already fallen/is dying naturally first.

people who eat fish but not other "alive" things are piscetarions or something, not vegetarions. I just don't want to eat something that has been brutally slaughterd and not allowed to live

I eat vegetarian about 5 days a week, but I look forward to a nicely griddled medium rare steak washed down with copious amounts of beer and wine on a Saturday night. I could never give up meat completely, but I find it quite easy to go the week without it, and it doesn't affect training / recovery at all (muay thai/kickboxing).

Plus, isn't being a vegetarian just as ecologically disasterous for Earth/animal species as being a meat eater? (kinda ironic).

Somehow, flying bananas in from Africa isn't good for your carbon footprint.

Although, eating animals also means that you're paying for their feed too, which is derived from agriculture.

All I'm saying is that vegetarians who take the moral high ground are basically just killing animals in other parts of the world aren't they? Main cause of deforestation is agriculture.

I eat fruit, vegetables, animals etc. though, just to confirm.

Good point, animals are evil and should all be killed!!! Just think how much grain we would save if we exterminated all the wild birds, mice and other animals that dare to feed on OUR grain!! (Ie I don't give a **** about more people being fed if we all didn't eat meat.)

Moral of the story? The Earth is too over populated. ******** can Earth 'comfortably' shelter 9 Billion people, it can only just look after 6 Billion and that is with a huge toll on ecosystems and the environment as a whole.

3 Billion people I think is what Earth could comfortably support without major issues to the rest of the things living here.

Anyway lets not get started on that as well.

Cows wouldn't exist if we didn't eat them.

Do you know that the hunting industry in Africa is what keeps the animals alive out there?

Do you know that in Zimbabwe (where there's no industry, no regulation and no protection) that all the animals have been wiped out?

I'm personally a great believer in protecting endangered species etc. I'll never eat shark or whale, I think that's disgusting, harvesting such great species for a fat man's meal.

But, news-flash, cows aren't endangered therefore are okay to eat.

If vegetarians spent more time caring about real injustices that happen (like whaling) and not sit there worrying about a chicken, then they'd get more respect.
