In case you didn't realise (and I certainly hadn't until now) today is World Vegetarian Day so will anyone be doing anything for it? Aside from the predictable "I'll be eating the biggest slab of cow I can lay my hands on" and "for every animal you don't eat I'll eat three" (courtesy Maddox) responses.

There's an article on it here which might be of interest to some, I personally reckon it comes across as a bit too preachy and zealous but there you go.

I've been buying quite a lot of that Quorn and similar stuff recently as it's a lot cheaper than meat (e.g. £1.89 for a 750g bag of Quorn mince as opposed to £3.59 for 500g of good quality minced beef). I have to say it's quite nice - hot tip: Sainsbury's meat-free hot dog sausages taste exactly the same as those tinned hot dog sausages, with the added bonus of not being full of ********* and earholes.

Like it or not, I think we have to accept that we're all going to be a lot poorer in future, and for the vast majority of us, that means going back to the days when meat was a treat and not the norm.

That is a terrible article. It comes down to someone saying "Think of the fluffy animals your eating, you sick filth!" using phrases like "Decaying flesh". Im surprised that the writer has the energy to type that all out ;)

Easting a BLT right now and there is no way I'm picking the Bacon out.....sorry

I'm not asking you to. :) I just thought it might be worth sparking one of the usual bi-monthly vegetarian debates to make a change from religion and immigration.

Quorn doesn't taste of anything much in itself I find but it's a decent source of protein and can be easily made to absorb the flavours of whatever you cook it in.

I did put in the caveat that I found it preachy but thought that a link to where I found out about the day might help, as an intellectual basis for not eating meat it isn't hugely sound although some of her points are true. Eat whatever you want to but allow others the same rights.

Quron Chicken is nice as well actually :) With some Cous cous as well.

Although I love Chicken and every thing as well! Just fancy a change every so often.
