Hi Friends,

Just thought i would share this with you on here...

Got home last night at about 11:30 - and noticed my dog Ellie, was breathing funny - like she was pumping her stomache out when she was breathing out.

So the first thing we done was ring the Vet, who happend to be in bed - and whow as a right snotty cow.

She said somthing along these lines...

"Its going to cost £130 just to see, then plus what ever treatment she needs - its up to you if shes worth it..."

Well if anyone on here seen some of the pics i posted of Ellie - you will understand that she is worth it.

So off we went.

The Vet gave her 3 injections, Anti-Biotics, Anti-Inflamitries and what not. Said there could be fluid on her lungs - and that we have to take her to the Vets today for X-Rays and stuff. So her apointment today is at 11:30, hopfully she is going to be ok :(

In herself, she seems fine - still the same old Ellie wagging her tail acting like a puppy - even though she is 8.

Anyway, here are a few pictures of Ellie.

Anyway, i'll keep you posted on whats happening.

Thanks.

Labradors do this when they get old. My old dog did it a couple of times (lived till he was 18). My 2 year old does it occasionally, like a series of hiccups for a moment. Might be something or nothing, but £130!!! Ouch. Vets can be pompass. We have a good relationship with ours though.

Get some pet insurance!

Insurance never seemed worth it - by the time you have paid the excess and with all other catches.

Vets are ridiculous tho, about 2 years ago she hurt her leg, snapped her tendons while jumping about. That cost circa £1500... One expensive dog :(

Pound a pat if anyone wants to pat her... ;)

Hope it doesn't turn out to be anything serious mate.

Don't like the sound of them just pumping her full of drugs when they don't know what the problem is!

You need a new vet by the sounds of it :o

Hope she is ok! My dog had fluid on his lungs, he was on water tablets.

I hope she's ok. Be careful if you take out pet insurance - you won't be covered for whatever she's suffering from at the moment. The insurance company will class it as a pre-existing condition.

Fingers crossed she'll get better soon :)

It is crazy how much vets charge back home though. We took our cat to the vet here, it's a nice modern surgery with a vet who speaks English, they did a urine test, antibiotics injection and standard consultation fee, it came to £15 in total, we asked about getting her neutered too and the quote for that was £40.

I hope she's okay :(

I'm another for saying find another vet, yes you woke her up, But the fact she could bring her self to say "If she's worth it" Makes me think you're just a number to her that's dragged her out of bed.

that is a serious amount of money. if it happened to my dog there is no way i would be paying it. if i could i would but I just couldn't afford it. £100 - £150 maybe.

christ do people love sticking the arm in

The Vet we woke up wasn't our Vet - just an emergency one.

Had some 'news' from the surgery, they drained laods of fluid from her stomache, and it a bit of blood in, so it has to be sent off to specialist now. Could be a tumour... not looking good.
