Tattoo advice

I wouldn't know about hurting on your arm (yet), but I do know one thing though, it hurts when you get close to and on top of your sternum, lol.

Still thinking about my next one, have three so far.

I always think tattoos that follow the shape of your body are better. Both of those would be better on other areas of you body I think.

I got a tattoo back in Febuary but spent a bit of time thinking what I wanted exactly. I wanted a tribal style one to follow my arm shape but also something a bit different not just any old tribal pattern.

Ended up getting a lion (refernce to my starsign, britain and my fascination with big cats ;) in a tribal styling where when you look at it quickly it looks like a pattern of tribal shapes but look at it longer than a few seconds and u see its a lions head :)

Its pretty impressive and the artist followed the lines of my arm and looks like it should be there if you know what I mean? I always get comments on how its cool and no one seen anything like it before - people think they are special when they see its a lion i think heh.

In terms of pain it wasn't too bad....depends a lot on your skin type. If your naturally tanned the ink will take nicely and there shouldnt be too much going over the same bit. If your pale it will take more strokes and hurt a bit more. But at the end of the day everyones pain barrier is different....it was bearable.

Best thing to do is ask around for the best tattoo artist in your area and go and chat to them buddy....

From what I heard, it's mainly just the outlining that hurts, not the colouring in, although I'm sure someone on here will have experience with it.

Out lining is usually done with 1 needle... shading and colours can be done with 3..4...5 or more, at a time, guess which is worst :P

Im getting two tattoo's very soon. Getting two nautical stars on the front of my hip. Its not all about originality. Im getting it because i think it looks good. not because im one of xx amount of people who have had it done..

Only very fine outlines are done with a 1. Thicker ones are done in a 3 or even a 5, shading's usually done with an 11, 12 or 13 needle mag.

I agree with you about which hurts more though, most seem to think it's outlines but I've always thought shading hurts quite a bit more. A lot of it because they go over it again and again and again for shading.

Sneaky Peaky... I'd recommend you getting something that means something mate.

Anyway, I'm gonna be rude and get a question of my own in here if you don't mind.
I've got a number of tattoos, one of which was on my wrist, now the question is... how much more pain would it hurt to get one on your chest? I've heard it hurts pretty bad!

I don't hold with this at all. Tattoos are art, pretty pictures, decoration.

A couple of mine hold some amount of meaning, but they're only personal mottos I like, not anything with any real weight. The two that mean something are the 'stand tall' on my collarbones, and 'to thine own self be true' on the back of my leg, and they're both as much about aesthetics as meaning.

I've nothing against tattoos that hold meaning, but it's by no means necessary. The majority of my tattoos are just pretty pictures.

Anyone? lol

Anyone? lol

Not sure on the chest but I was told that the most painful is on your foot or wrist, and that came from the lady running the tattoo place I went to when I had the first half of mine done :)

And on that note I'm having mine finished off next week :D 3 more hours of pain...yay \o/
