Pro Evo Demo on Thurs

Wish I hadn't bothered.

I used to love PES, but it hasn't moved on much at all since I last played it a year ago. Glad I have FIFA pre order, as I won't be playing this again.
 
Well first impressions - I really like the shooting, it has a satisfying feel to it. The pace of the game is much better, more like 6 than 08 but still faster than 6. The player likeness is excellent, very impressed with it. No slowdown during the game or replays.

One problem for me was the movement(not animations) of the players and there positioning at corners or from a cross, scrambles in the box etc all felt the same as they have done for years. The same situations develop that developed in the last ones. Not sure I'm explaining that very well, but is almost like deja vue a lot of the time.

I like it however, better than 08 and like all PES games it will get better the more you play it. Whether I get it from day one I'm not sure.
 
The ball sounds, and feels like it's the wrong sort of ball, if they had made it orange and a bit bigger it would be more realistic as it seems like a basketball.

The ai is crap, predictable and the same as past editions.

It's too fast, the graphics are the same (aside from a few touch ups here and there as they were 2 years ago).

Don't get me wrong if this was out 2/3 years ago it would be fantastic and I'd be playing PES, but the "other" game has moved on so much that I can't honestly say that I prefer this as I don't.

Although the legend mode looks much better.
 
Right first of this is much better game then PES 2008 i played PC version last night and that had problem with 360 controller but i knew console would be fine.

Positives

* Much slower then PES 2008 no more arcade silly speed think could do with another notch though down.
* Sharper graphics
* AI seems better more intellligent still not up there with Fifa for me though.
* Got old school PES feeling but this is what PES 6 should have been on 360
* Music better and menu are ok but nothing special still presentation needs to be worked on.

Negatives

* Running animations are just laughable hardly better then PES 2008 they could have put in more variation.
* Animation on whole poor feels robotic stiff and rigid and i think Fifa are much more seamless.
* Lack of fully manual controls.
* Keepers still not up to scratch better but still conceed silly goals due to poor parrying.

Overall its what i expected to play well but for me Fifa raised bar now and whilst this plays well its still quite far behind for me. Dont get me wrong PES is decent again and that nice but many areas its still a long way behind for me and a new engine long overdue. :)

I like the feel, I like the pace but the ball sound is awful. It sounds wrong from the moment you hit the first ball. Its glaringly obvious.

Only had a couple of games so far but if the onlines fixed I will buy it. I liked it. I'm sure any football game it will get better the more you play it. I really like the look of the legend mode and if enough people buy it that could be great fun.

I don't think it's that much slower than PES6 but it's certainly faster than fifa, I prefer the responsiveness of the controls.

Also at launch i'm sure the supermarket doing the fifa game for under £30 will do this one as well.

Really pleased this years demo has no slowdown, tearing or pausing like I had last year. The replays are smooth too.

I'm not, I've always thought PES was very underrated when it comes to player models. Fifa still looks better overall, but PES is no slouch graphically.

Forgot to mention the thud thud of the ball how could i forget its awful same as 08 also video at end of demo getting on my nerves at least on PC can turn it off.

same here really enjoyed it feels much more natural to me than fifa ever has
 
I've also found my players no longer do what they did a lot in other evos. Stand 3 yards offside for no bloody reason. They seem to be a lot better this time.

Really struggled though with Real Madrids lack of pace to even break down a poor team like Liverpool :(
