LittleBigPlanet - Play, Create and Share.

Sorry, still dont know the whole point - looks very very nice though...

Im not a console person so a lot of these games just pass me by - I guess you just make a level submit it online and then allow others to play it?

Is there anything more? Not being dismissive just trying to work out the 'hype' and the aim - I guess its probably because its a closed beta and others just want in...

P.S. I guess its out soon - are they still putting people into the beta?

ps3ud0

It's a normal platform game (like super mario bros) except there is a lot of physics involved (And humour although this is used in other games). Completeing the levels gives you some objects/items that are in that level (and others) so you can use them in the level editor

Additionally, all of the 60ish levels (Which I will hazard is more levels than most platform games) have been made with a set of tools that you can use yourself to make the EXACT same levels.

Obviously people make their own, and there is a world map kind of interface to play/explore/rate the levels, like Youtube/Singstar etc.

The Beta is closed, has a limited set of tools, is a slightly old build, and is just to test server stress (with people playing online co-op and using "home made" levels).

Last week about 25k keys given away in EU, this week about 10-15k given away in USA. People are saying that next week, everyone MAY be able to download the Beta free.

I think that covers it tbh, the rest is just down to looking at youtube etc to see what can be created with these tools.

Edit: This guy made a basic transformer!!! (Robot's in Disguise rule tbh). http://www.avforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7836326&postcount=216

One thing I don't understand (yet?) is that there are objects you can place in your levels that can't possibly be created manually. Prime example - the skateboard you ride on in the 3rd level (I haven't unlocked this as a prefab yet I don't think) - you only have 4 "steps" in depth for created objects so how can you recreate something like that by hand?

Also, the tea cups that you see right at the start on "Skate for Victory" or whatever the 3rd map is, how on Earth would you recreate them? I just can't see how it's possible when you're limited to 4 grid steps in depth.

You can also cut shapes out.

I don't understand re the cups. But the Skateboard is 2 depths "deep" (You have 3 full depths to play with). I unlocked it as a made object, but could make my own in less than 10 mins tbh. It really is just a plank of wood with 4 wheels under it!!

Edit: I know which cups you mean now, I think they are 1 deep, so I would struggle to see how those are made as they have a hole in the middle that prize bubbles fall into.

You move a ball shape back into the middle of it and use triangle to cut into the shape.

yeah its kind of annoying that you cant make tubes as it were or anything like that. Think thats what he might be referring to as currently you cant make any sort of tea like structure. Well you could except it would be box like

And it would take up all 3 layers of depth I guess, so you wouldn't be able to see sackboy run through it etc.

Already I am thinking about how feasible it would be for them to add say an extra 3 levels of depth to the game via DLC, say 1 year down the line or something. Something simple like that would double the capabilities of the game (in theory)

yeah i dont see in theory how its not possible. But i guess theyve done it to make it simple. Like you cant made your own 3d spheres. You can make a rolling tube but no spheres

What about the footballs/golf balls etc? Are they 1 depth each? (don't look like it, yet behave like it).

No i dont think they are one depth. If you place a football down and shrink it then you can see how deep it is, they behave funny when shrunk down they lose there spherical goodness. But then again i dont know. But there are limits to what you can create object wise

on a secondry note i missed the 2nd epsiode of heroes last night on bbc3. Is there any way i can re-watch it. Iplayer or anything, i cant see it on there

Cheers for the info guys - will definitely have a look at more youtube videos - to me as someone who doesnt game that much it seems to be just another social community with puzzles and further interactions. I normally would read the thread in full - but 45pages is too long for me :p

Sounds like a great idea and I can imagine it working well in closed beta, but when it goes online unless youve got a tight circle of people to interact with I suspect it might get stale quite quickly.

To me its just another WoW (not to be taking in a bad way).

Heroes recent and upcoming schedule on BBC channels. Looks like only the current BBC2 episode will be on iPlayer which over the next 7 days will be repeated on BBC2 once, BBC3 once and BBC HD once. The "next weeks' episode looks like a single showing at 10pm on Wednesdays, simulcast on BBC HD and BBC3.

Cheers for that mate i found it on the iplayer but not on my tv. Shame they dont have the BBC3 one but i guess that makes complete sense as it was next weeks ;)

To me its just another WoW

Burn the witch !

I kid, if the rumors of a week of totally public Beta are true you can try it for yourself and see it is pretty much nothing like WoW.

Now just go stand on that pile of wood will you....
