Car insurance, does this sound right?

First time in motors so hope this is the right place for this.

I've just bought my first car and I'm shopping around for insurance before I go pick it up.

I'm 24, only recently got my driving license (august) and I've bought a beast, a 2004 corsa 1.0 (exciting stuff!).

The average quote seems around the £1,000 mark, the best quote I've found is with "The Green Insurance Company" run by Kwik-Fit, and its £865.

Is that in the right ball park for a new driver? Many thanks.

Thanks, to be honest I had no idea what to expect, the RAC quoted me £3,700!

exactly, some companies just do this to tell you that they aren't interested.

Yeah I was a little embarrassed about it having looked at some of the other guys here, but its my first car, its cheap and economic and will tide me over.

I've never used quidco, only i hear the name quite a lot, im going investigate as i like the sound of free money

I doubt a 2004 Corsa was that cheap, really. Your first visit to Motors should have been before, not after, purchasing probably one of the worst cars on sale today

personally, i would go on parents policy as a named driver for one year, if it is at all possible. when you reach the ripe old age of 25, insurance gets a lot cheaper!

i would imagine you could insure a 1 litre corsa for about 700 quid tops if you were 25

Its an ex-company car so I got it cheap

To be honest I know nothing about cars so I won't notice its a dud.

Yeah one of my mates mentioned that, unfortunately my old folks live in NZ

800 quid at 24 on a 1litre Corsa... regardless of being a new driver or not, is it just me that thinks thats stupidly high? hell i paid less on a higher powered car at 17!

Thats why I was asking, it seems a lot to me but then its cheaper than all the other quotes I've had which are all £1,000+

I only qualified a few months back so that certainly doesn't help.

I wonder if being a doctor makes it more expensive or less expensive, they all ask for what you do for a living.

try doign a few online quotes and say you have done an advanced driving course...

that will give you an idea of how much doing one would nock off your premium
