Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core E2180 (2.0GHz, 800MHz FSB, 1MB Cache)
2GB DDR2 667MHz memory
250GB SATA hard drive (7200rpm)
Dual Layer DVD Rewriter
NVIDIA® GeForce® 7050 integrated graphics
19” widescreen TFT display

My cousin's seen this advertised on TV and is very tempted by it.

Is it possible to get a better, or at least equal spec, for the same price: £350

?

Edit: Just to confirm, that's including a 19" monitor, keyboard + mouse. OS not needed.

At least give me a challenge :p

Ok then!

Would prefer not to buy a barebones, and would prefer C2D.

250GB is more than enough HDD space for him, so could save some cash there. :)

Go!

Remove that competitor link before a mod see's it. Just post the specs up or something.

I thought as it's just the manufacturer's site it'd be ok? Ah well, better to be on the safe side - I'll edit out now. :)

CPU

CASE

MOBO

DVDRW

HDD 320gb 16mb cache for the sake of £5 its worth it

RAM

Monitor Same price as but slighty better than the samsung I mentioned.
It has a higher contrast ratio + a digital output.

Ps OcUK Value Hannspree is so ugly It may turn you to stone

You asked for a C2D I gave you 1 both the HP & the 1 above are PDC & tbh I would rather shoot myself in the face than use.

Due to the much better cpu, ram, & monitor am using am overbudget
But my build would blow the 1 above & hp apart.

£343.93
£404.12 inc VAT (Its the vat mans fault)

Cheers for the advice! :)

So what do you reckon he should go for, save all the hassle and get the prebuilt, which I've got to admit, although it's gonna be low quality components, does look pretty good value.

Or a custom build, which might cost a bit more (he has a tight budget), but would offer much better quality.

I was wondering if it was possible to build a similar spec for the same money.

I'm not completely up to date on the latest hardware/prices which is why I asked.

Now it seems a comparable custom build would cost a bit more, I was just asking for opinions on whether that bit extra would be worth it.

I think an important factor is... If he gets the prebuilt he gets support, warranty etc etc

No matter what support or warranty he gets I'll be the one who sorts any problems out.

Firstly, the pre-built 'thing' in the original post is NOT a Core 2 Duo. It's a pentium Dual Core which is effectively a Celeron and is very low performance in comparison to the AMD that PwnDirect suggested so I don't see how a 'comparison would cost him more'

I would go for the AMD option if it was me

Pre-built PC has it won. People say cheap quality components, as if your mate's gonna know any different. Plus, they're only classed as 'cheap' if they're so budget they break down. Until/unless that happens, then what's the difference?
