Soundtrack that completes a part of a film for you?

The ending to Black Hawk Down - Gortoz A Ran. Hans Zimmer is really good at setting the feeling of any scene.

Crash had a really good score throughout

The Royal Tenenbaums - the scene where Ritchie attempts suicide.
More poignant if you watch the whole film, but a really arresting song nonetheless.

I didn't enjoy Peter Jackson's King Kong, but when the weird sucking things and spiders were attacking the crew, the music played was really haunting and made me shiver.

Not sure about films but I've always found the West Wing chooses excellent music to go with certain scenes. Specifically these two:

- The final episode of season 2, Two Cathedrals, where Dire Straits' Brothers in Arms complements the atmosphere perfectly.

- Can't find the full version of this, but Dead Can Dance's Sanvean is played over a montage illustrating the reaction to the kidnapping of the President's daughter.

nice, slow motion would have been even better. sure to turn on the waterworks :p

Michael Nyman completely made Gattaca for me with his score

Sunshine was a great opening post - one of the best movie soundtracks ever.

My strangely leftfield vote has to go to the original Star Wars soundtrack. Would the film be as memorable, epic, or well reknowned without John Williams classical score?

Wake Up by Rage Against the Machine was an inspired choice for the end credits of the first Matrix film, and the part in 300, not at the end (as already mentioned) but the heavy metal piece that plays whilst the Persian fleet is broken up on the rocks before all the fighting kicks off.

A perfect example of the music score at least half resurrecting a film, Star Wars Episode 1, in particular "Duel of the Fates" with its haunting and dramatic choral segments.
John Williams is a classical genius of our time, his works make so many films. I haven't heard a movie score of his that hasn't been exemplary.

This may sound like a bit of a modern cliche, but the Gladiator soundtrack adds so much to the film. Without it it would merely be a good action movie; with it it almost feels deep. It's remarkably evocative.

Jonny Greenwood's soundtrack to There Will Be Blood certainly adds something as well.

The end of Crash, where "Maybe Tomorrow" by Stereophonics kicks brought a smile to my face after taking the film content so seriously.

Also the bit in Crash where the shopkeeper shoots the girl, the music really adds to that scene, I've heard that piece of music used on a lot of other stuff lately too.

No Clint Mansell with his Requiem for a Dream and the Fountain scores?

His work really impacts on scenes in both of the films.

Yes!

His work on all of Aronofsky's films (Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain) turned those films into something special.

Pi is just quirky, face-paced and reflects the madness fantastically, whereas The Fountain has that slow, deep thought provoking essence.

*** SPOILER ***

As the music kicks in during The Fountain as the Tree of Life finally dies, combined with the stunning visuals -- the film takes on an entirely new persona. For the entire movie you wait and wait for the music to climax, slowly hearing it build only for it to explode at once in timing with the visual effects. It works incredibly well in my opinion.

*** /SPOILER ***

I wouldn't say The Fountain or Pi are bad films in their own merit though. It's just, from a great concept, story, and narrative; they're given character, life and rhythm which carry you throughout. Where in Requiem the music is brilliant, I didn't feel it adding to the film on the same level that Aronofsky's other work has. In fact, I'm now listening to Clint Mansell as I type this! :D

Anyway, I've always loved the work of Hans Zimmer in Black Hawk Down and Gladiator. His music really does transform the films for me. The conclusion of Gladiator where Maximus enters Elysium is one of my favourite scenes of any movie and never fails to give me goosebumps, and the raw feel to Black Hawk Down is very humbling.

I've always loved the ending to Meet Joe Black too where Isreal Kamakawiwo'ole's Somewhere Over the Rainbow begins to play. It's jusy beautiful and well worth watching the film to reward yourself with.

Finally, I thought the music of The Shins and Eddie Vedder really worked for Garden State and Into the Wild respectively.

EDIT:

Ah, before I forget too -- the soundtrack for Juno is one of the best I've heard in a while. I just love how melancholic and bohemian it feels.

The Fountain (Ending)

Juno (Ending)

Garden State (The Shins - New Slang)

Gladiator (Ending) (Lisa Gerrard & Hans Zimmer - Now We Are Free)

Black Hawk Down (Theme Song), Black Hawk Down (Joe Strummer - Minstrel Boy)

Into the Wild (Eddie Vedder - Cold Hard Sun)

Pi

Transformers (Old Movie)

Weird, I would have thought I'd posted in here by now but must have forgot.

For me, the score is often by far the most important part of the film. Bad stories can be improved by the right mood given by the score.

Sound tracks I like in any order :

Transformers 2007
Romeo and Juliet
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind
Plunkett and Macleane (Craig Armstrong is a genius)
Gladiator (same with Hans Zimmer)
K-Pax
The Fountain (reiterates my point from above. Crap story, great score)
Smart People

Ok, I know there are several movie soundtrack threads, but this one is a little bit different. This thread is to show people the part of clip of a film that you feel was converted from being average to good - to completely epic thanks to some wise soundtrack choices.

Sorry, I've just realised I've not answered your question.

Gladiator - the bit at the end where he's walking through the field of corn.

I'm going to have a think about this.

Donnie Darko - Mad world scene at the end

Do i win the thread now? :p

As a side note, LOVE sunshine too, especially the soundtrack.

Reading through all of these I was struggling to think of one of my favourites, but then it hit me :)

Terminator 2, the theme tune (You Could Be Mine - Guns N' Roses) made that film, the scene on the bike with the two lads, and the boom box on the back, soo good!

Others I would probably have to say would be Casino Royale, thought Chris Cornell's song was quite good. Blade, the dance theme in the club, I searched for that for ages!!! Also probably the Coach Carter theme, that really suits the mood of the film, especially at the end :)
