I've just setup a contract with T Mobile 15 pound a month for unlimited internet. The Dongle model E 160 only has Windows and Mac setups. I wondered where I can get a Setup for Linux so I can install it on my new Acer Aspire One 150.

Thanks for any help you may give.

All I find on the Gnome web site is

Download

Source tarballs of the latest NetworkManager release can be found on the GNOME FTP Server.

There is random files but no installer.

You might have to go 'old skool' dependant upon your distribution. If you're on Ubuntu/Gentoo, Network Manager 0.7 might be in the portage tree. Under anything redhat/debian based, it's probably available as an .rpm.

Other than that, do what we ALL had to do in the olden days -
tar -xzvf networkmanager.tar.gz
./configure
make
make install ;)

What OS are you using and are you using Gnome or KDE?
If you are using Fedora/Gnome, issue the command "yum install NetworkManager NetworkManager-gnome" (you need to be root though).
If Ubuntu/Gnome I think it's "sudo apt-get install network-manager network-manager-gnome".

Great I got advanced mode working so I can use right click on the desktop. I go to Networks where I read I would find Gnome-ppp but it's not there.

Hmm, reading what I can find about Linpus it seems a bit crazy.. I have no idea how you should progress from here :(

Apparently Linpus Lite is based on Fedora 8 so can you try this and let me know:
Open a terminal (no idea how you'd do that under Linpus) and type "yum list *Network*" (no quotes tho) and post back what it returns? That should show you all available applications names that contain the word "Network".

I'm just downloading a LiveCD version and will try installing it as a Virtual Machine as soon as the download finishes and I'll see if I can suss it out. Might take a while though, the d/l is slow!

If it does turn out to be Fedora-based I can search for some relevant info for that :)

pretty sure these worked out of the box on the asus eee so it should work without to much hassle in ubuntu. (though the one i used was the huiwa 220 modem i think) i also got it working on a peper pad with a bit of faffing about (thats fedora 5 based i belive)
Thinking about it, there are issues caused by the way the USB device acts like a CD drive as well, you have to disbale that before linux can load the modem drivers, all the documentation i had on it is at work, i'll dig it out on Monday if you need? keywords to search for would be hdspa drivers :)
If the shortcut is not there then try issuing the command via the terminal. :)

A CD drive does appear when I plug in the T Mobile USB modem. I'm going to have to try and find out how to stop it from doing that then.

I have gnome-ppp installed but how am I suppose to know what username asd password to use when I have not set an account up with anyone requiring user name and password. I'm also asked for a phone number how am I to know what the heck goes there?

I cant remeber what they are off the top of my head, though they can be found via google, pretty sure the username is just user though :)

Here's the gnome-ppp log I get when I try and connect

--> Cannot get information for serial port.
--> Initializing modem.
--> Sending: ATZ
ATZ
OK
--> Sending: AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","general.t-mobile.uk"
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","general.t-mobile.uk"
ERROR
--> Bad init string.

I now have gnome_ppp saying connected and a timer telling me how long I've been connected so I'm guessing I'm progressing. Down side is even though gnome tells me I'm connected Firefox behaves has if I'm offline.

I'm trying to get my Huawei E160 dongle working ... I 'think' I need the drivers? Are they on the stick? I can't find them anywhere online! Basically I have installed the 'Mobile Connect' dashboard, as suggested here, onto the stick. When I open Mobile Partner I have no signal or connection. I have made a new profile with the following settings too:

Settings
Profile name: ERU O2 3g
APN: payandgo.o2.co.uk
Phone number: *99#
Account name: Vertigo
password: password

Authentication: CHAP
~The settings for the iphone sim card are *99# as phone number and payandgo.o2.co.uk in APN.

So my current theory is that the stick is installing as just a 'usb memory' stick and not as a 3g dongle. How do I get it to install the drivers and thus as a 3g dongle? I have both the original SIM and an iPhone SIM (that needs crediting) from eBay.
