youve all seen the typical examples, one model badged up as something with a much bigger engine etc

the only reason i can see someone doing it is so they can try and make people thing they have something better than they really have. but why? esp when youre disproved etc surely that makes you feel more of a noob?

Because they're muppets trying to big themselves up? But they don't realise how much of a div they look?

It's like those chavs who wear Gucci emblazoned across their jumpers, or a fake Rolex watch.

I prefer it when it's the other way round, I saw something badged up to be a 1.2 or 1.4 nova, looks totally standard, "Nova Spin" badges, steel wheels, ladders on the roofrack, but it came flying past me one day on a country lane with flames coming out the exhaust!

I was popping on a bit, so there's probably something pretty tasty under the bonnet. :D

There is a 1.6 golf Mk4 around these parts with an 'R16' badge on the radiator front.

Makes me grin everytime I see it, honest in a wierd sort of way..

lol wtf?

I think that most of reasoning behind it is that people genuinely have absolutely NO idea what the badges mean in mechanical terms. They have no idea what makes a V6 engine a V6 or the huge number of difference between a normal model and a sport. I think these people must just view cars on face value and just associate RS branding and higher spec model badges just as something cool to associate with. I doubt they pretend their cars are the real deal, surely

I do the opposite. I removed the turbo badges from my MR2 and have removed the GTI badges from the Golf as I don't want the attention from the local chavs wanting a race.

you think if I debadge mine it will work the same ? :p

TBH I used to get that problem in the Scoobies but not with the M3 or Cayman

Badging down is cool, like my mates Metro. A 1.1 Rio apparently, but that's forgetting the Elise lump in the front :D

I've been having thoughts of doing that to mine. Removing the 420 and Turbo badges and slapping a 414SLi (grandad spec) badge onto it.
