Has anyone had any issues with these? My mum's partner is looking at getting it for £240 - but he only has a 480 Antec PSU - this should be enough shouldn't it?

I'm running one on an OCZ 470W. 33A on the 12v rail which I figured should probably be enough.

It generally seems OK, apart from my PC switched itself off a couple of times while playing Crysis.

Issue I've got is that my PSU has no 6 or 8 pin PCI-E power adapters, so I've had to to plug 2 4pin-to-6pin adapters into the 6pin-to-8pin adapter, for a grand total of SIX power molexes 'required' to power the graphics card. I haven't actually got that many available, so I've probably been running it without the required amount of juice, hence the crashes.

Tempted to wire up a spare psu to give it some extra juice, although I'm not sure how safe that is (having a system running of 2 PSUs - what happens when you power down and still have power flowing into some of the devices?)

If i were you i would be looking at a new psu not a second one to add more juice. Would give you more piece of mind.

Yeah I've thought about it, keeping my eye out for a bargain.
The annoying thing is, it's actually a really good PSU, just old (hence lack of PCI-E power connectors). 33A 12v rail is no slouch, plus it has adjustable POTS so you can tweak the voltage via dials on the back

Personally I'd just it a blast on the Antec 480W, then buy another PSU if it can't hack it.

These can still be had for £240? I've been hunting around for the past week and cant find anything much below £300... grrr

As for OP, no point skimping around on the PSU if you can afford to buy a top end card, you can afford to buy a top end PSU :) Just get a decent (Corsair or similar) 650W+ one and you will be fine.

I increased the stock fan speed to 80%

Under windows it's over 30c but under 40c

Playing Mass Effect, i data logged the temp for 2 + hours it was always over 50 but under 70, so about a 20c varience depending how intensive the sections were, most of the time it was between 55 and 65c

I'm planning on getting another case fan as there is a vent just under were graphics card fan points so another fan blowing directly onto the graphics card fan should hopefull see it drop further

For referance when it was stock and the fan speed set to stock 40% speed, Mass effect had temperatures over 70c in some sections, so it's actually running cooler since i tweaked the fan speed despite a 15% odd overclock

I have a Leadtek and its overheating...:(

Heats 105C in Furmark:( I need to RMA it I think...
