Nvidia's new naming scheme revealed

It is, the 8800 GTS 512mb got renamed to the 9800 GTX, the 8800 GT got renamed to 9800 GT.

They are just going to stick the 9800 GTX etc... in new boxes with GTS 1xx whatever written on them, and re-sticker the coolers with the new GTS names and whack the bloody prices up, so the 8800 GTS/GT are going up in price for the 2nd time, which is absolutey ******* disgusting.

Its what ya call milking it to the maximum an 8800gt is going on to its third name as is the gts. It tricks the normal consumer who does not know to much into thinking they are buying a new card when really the card they are buying is old. I suppose if nvidia keep the prices the same they are not doing much wrong but if they have the nerve to rebadge and up prices then its a pure **** take.

Agreed, its an absolute disgrace, they are going to be buying 8800 GT's etc... that are under £100 now for probably £120+, just because they are getting slapped in new boxes and had new stickers slapped on the coolers.

It's a good laugh tbh, get more (exactly the same) products on the shelves to try and rape that extra bit of cash out the consumer...

Hopefully it fails really badly and they fire the guys in charge of renaming products every month.

Agree with you on the price but what we do know is what nvidia have done in the past lets see 8800gts is now 9800gtx and on release it cost more than a gts by a decent amount all because they gave the card an oc and name change. 9800gt spring to mind also. Its not just the price either its the fact that people will get the impression they are buying new tech when indeed they are buying old tech. The only thing is if there is no price bump its still pretty decent performance for the money.
 
glad ATi have done away with suffexces, when will nvidia learn to not complicate their naming conventions. how are those wanting to upgrade their card who don't know much about the new names going to know weather the upgrade will be worth it
 
Because marketing states the more "GT XXXXXXX ++++++'s" you can fit behind a product name, the more attractive it looks on the packaging :p

I'm nit picking here but generally speaking an OC version of a card will normally cost more than a stock cllocked version so in the case of the 8800GTS 512mb - 9800GTX it makes sense that the price increased.
