Hey,

The reason for this topic is because I'm thinking of getting a dedicated server in the UK and I can get this:

AMD X2 5600+

2GB Ram

80GB Hard Drive

Unlimited Gaming B/W

Or:

Intel Core2Duo E6600

2GB Ram

80GB Hard Drive

I can get the the AMD X2 5600+ at about £40 - £50 a month or I can get the E6600 package for £200 per 3 months which works out about £66 a month.

Which is the better package for the price and what difference would there be between these two proccesors?

Thanks.

Lovely how no one even reads the topic properly. For a server it's stock vs stock. So we have a 2.8ghz X2 vs a 2.4 GHZ Core 2. The core 2 is going to be slightly (but not a lot) quicker. At £66 per month vs lets says £45 as the middle figure, the AMD server is better value. That's assuming nothing else is different. Of course the reliability and support of your host is more important than either of these.

Cheers everyone that clears it up exactly.

I'm looking to run mainly CoD4 and maybe a CSS.

as above, get the amd but dont enter a contract for more than 1 month with a GSP you have never used before. seen too many people get sucked into cheaper deals if they book 3months+ at a time without having a server from them before and ending up with a poor server and no support.

if the box is good then keep it, if not upgrade to the E6600 after your month is up.

if supports bad then your only out of pocket 1 months rental ;)

if it was me i would ask for a trial server to be set up, reputable GSP's will let you have one for 24hrs if you ask nicely :D

i'd go with the AMD setup, simply for the better value. A 21 quid increase for such a small amount of power seems pointless.

plus, cod4 and css both have great netcodes, so bullet reg will be awesome anyway ;)

I agree the AMD X2 5600+ is great value for money and its a dedicated server anyway so it does not have to deal with graphics so most of its processing power will be dedicated in running the games.
