Im interested in an RX8 and have been looking into the insurance for them...Ive used confused.com, put in the exact smae results *bar the car reg plate* and am getting really odd results...

RX-8 2005 - 189 BHP - IG 15 - Cheapest Insurance Price - £1411.20

RX-8 2004 - 231 BHP - IG 16 - Cheapest Insurance Price - £1293.60

Maybe because its a year younger that its more expensive??

I mean im not complaining really :p Looking at getting the 231BHP version anyways. Just curious bacuse if the insurance was a lot cheaper with the 189BHP version I would probably have gone for that.

insurance is calculated by claim statistics as well as all the other stuff (including wind direction ? ;))

whichever insurer is quoting less for the more powerfull one has obviously had lower claims on the higher model (probably due it being more rare possibly?) thus has weighted the policies appropriately.

Ahh well...More BHP for me! :D

After reading reviews it seems the 189 BHP RX-8 has more Torque, What does will that mean in driving terms? *im not a car pr0*

Have you read about the rotary engine the RX-8 uses?

They are nice cars but it isn't as simple as a piston engine, you can flood the engine for example if you just start the car for a few minutes and then turn it off.

Not trying to put you off but just make sure you do some research first. (If you haven't already of course) ;)

Yee I know about the rotary engine and the fact the car drinks oil as fast a fuel :p but everything else about the car just makes me go "I WANT!"

Not yet. Wanted to make sure the insurance wasnt so high i couldnt afford it...All ive done atm is look at the prices of the car itself, insurance and read up on some reviews.

Drive one before you even waste the time to look at the insurance. You might like them, i certainly dont.

An opinion backed up by the shocking residuals - being able to get a 2005 version for £7k is great but you also have to ask yourself why they are so cheap. Yes, cars like this have been taking a hit for ages but you cant get 2005 Golf GTI's for £7k can you, nor can you get 2005 anything else like an RX8 for £7k.

I love everything about the RX8's apart from the piddly engine it comes with. They arent that fast and they drink too much fuel and oil for what they return.

my mates sister has one and she does this at least once a month...she'll never learn

The year definitely comes into it - one insurance price had my car down as a 1994 model (on an 'X' plate!) - changing it to a 2001 model added £100 to the insurance price!

EDIT: As for the car, a brother of a friend at work had a 2004 230hp model and I personally really enjoyed driving it - and I liked the noise the engine made! It's definitely worth test driving though and the running costs are huge

Ive had a test drive in a few and quite like them but they have their quirks and they arnt very good on petrol :(
For me to insure a 54 plate 231bhp its £322, that for me and the wife, guess there are advantages of being old :)

Thats because a 1994 model Astra is a totally different car. Two model years of the same car wont make a difference - it certainly never has for me.
