Hey everyone

I've been tasked with creating a few hours worth of music to play at a Halloween fancy dress party. I've created a list of songs that I can think of straight away, but I know there will be loads of other songs that I might not have heard yet, or I might have missed.

The songs should preferably be Alternative, Metal (not necessarily very heavy) or Gothic, or at least with a Gothic or sinister / weird / freaky halloween feel to them. So songs about hell, beasties, evil creatures, fabled creatures, natural phenomena etc are more than appropriate.

The songs I have added so far are:

Iron Maiden - Number Of The Beast, Run To The Hills
AC/DC - Thunderstruck, Highway To Hell
Pantera - Cemetery Gates
Nightwish - a few of their songs
Within Temptation - a few of their songs
Prodigy - Firestarter, Voodoo People
Rob Zombie - Dragula
Metallica - Enter Sandman
Apocalyptica - Helden
Lacuna Coil - Swamped

I have a few more but I can't seem to remember them right now, I'll add them later if I remember them.

Please OcUK, help me out with some suggestions so I can look them up on iTunes and make a few purchases for my uber CD's :) Many thanks :D

Helloween - 'Dr. Stein'
Annihilator - 'Alison Hell'
Alice Cooper - 'Gail'
Alice Cooper - 'Rose on White Lace' (must follow 'Gail')
Iron Maiden - 'Hallowed Be Thy Name'

Thought of a few...

Godsmack - Vampires
Thunderdome - Extreme Terror
Mushroomhead - 43
Mushroomhead - These Filthy Hands
AFI - Miseria Cantare: The Beginning
As I Lay Dying - This is who we are
Fleshcrawl - Anthem of Death - (you have to play this one) AND Fleshcrawl - Into the Crypts of scattered Souls

EDIT: I don't know if thats exactly what you were after, but they are good tracks. (Except Extreme Terror, thats just silly)

Tristania - Deadlocked
The Sins of Thy Beloved - All Alone
Theatre of Tragedy - Venus
The Gathering - In Motion #1
Within Temptation - Ice Queen [obviously]
Nemesea - Beyond Evil
Sirenia - In Sumerian Haze
Type O Negative - Christian Woman/Black No 1 [I'd run both back to back]
After Forever - Forlorn Hope
Flowing Tears - Serpentine
Siebenburgen - Storms
Epica - Run for a Fall

Those are some of the best Gothic metal songs you're likely to hear. They're all female vocals with the exception of Type O Negative.

I will offer Misfits Halloween. Neither metal nor gothic, but what you have there isn't really either so it might be worth a punt!

Fastway - Trick Or Treat
Helloween - Halloween
Am I Evil - Diamond Head or (Metallica Cover)
Angel Witch - White Witch
King Diamond - At the graves
King Diamond - Cremation (creepy instrumental)

Edit: and of course Ozzy Osbourne - Bark at the Moon

The Alkaline Trio cover of that song is a bit more gothic ;)

Get some Sisters of Mercy in there too, they have plenty of songs that would fit in with that theme.

You are desperately missing some Slayer in there.

I think pretty much anything Slayer do is Halloween material.

Probably duplicated a few but here you go

Inkubus Sukkubus - definate on this one, its pagan/witchcraft on a majority of it.
Nightwish
Angtoria
cradle of filth
within temptation
Angelzoom
Lacuna Coil
Leaves' Eye
Lunatica
Krypteria
Demon Hunter
rob zombie
sanctity
sirenia
stream of passion
tristania
evanescence
Mortiis

Might be able to get away with
Achillea
Delerium (non remixed albums)
Apocalyptica
Hevien
apoptygma berzerk - maybe a little too digital though
H.I.M.

Try Sonata Arctica - Fullmoon

you also forgot Metallica - Of Wolf and Man
Otherwise I'd people have given you a decent amount of suggestions :)

Edit - oh and 'For Whom the Bell Tolls' it's all in the name!

You're just naming female-fronted bands now. Krypteria? Lunatica? I don't think the OP is looking for power metal, whereas Angelzoom will send everyone to sleep.

And Inkubus Sukkubus are gash.

Surfin' Dead - The Cramps
Goo Goo Muck - The Cramps
Dead Beat Dance - The Damned
Video Nasty - The Damned
Bela Lugosi's Dead - Bauhaus
Incubus Succubus – Xmal Deutschland
Now I'm Feeling Zombified - Alien Sex Fiend
Don't Fear the Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult
Creeping Death – Metallica

I fear I may be showing my age a little :D

Well I think you'll find that atleast 4 of those listed have major male singers in them
As to angelzoom sending you to sleep, I have the same opinion of nemesea and the gathering.
As to power metal, well they're no worse than the likes of rob zombie and mushroomhead like some of the others have mentioned.

Inkubus sukkabus are in my view one of the true 'pagan/gothic' bands out there and are probably one of the few bands that truely fit with halloween - sample song

And besides everyone seems to have a different definition of what gothic is, I would never deem marilyn manson as gothic for example yet others clearly have. I would also say some of the ones we both suggested are borderline.

But everyone is entitled to their own opinions and at the end of the day its down to the op.

Now to please your lack of male singers
Diary of Dreams
Clan Of Xymox (although maybe a tad 80's)
